Dude what are you smoking?? Reddick hasn't touched .280 since moving from A ball. He is a career .257 hitter in AA' date=' and a career .243 hitter in AAA. He was hitting .230 in Pawtucket prior to being called up. He has never hit for a high average.[/quote']

Sure, it's only 70 plate appearances, but a .393 batting average is still something to behold.

Should we broach the possibility that maybe Reddick IS what he appears? Not a .390 hitter, that's not necessarily what I mean, but he's always hit for a high average and built his offense on his ability to make contact and drive the ball, it shouldn't shock anyone that he can hit for a high average and drive the ball in the big leagues too.

If this kid is a .300 hitter at the big league level -- and with his toolset he easily could be -- then he needs to be given a chance to stick. If he turns into Francoeur, at least he had a shot. But I think he can do better than that, especially if he can show a bit more opposite field ability as he matures.

+1

Even batting around .270, he would deserve that spot.

This is a former top 100 BA prospect, who completely fell off the cliff. Now, suddenly it seems like he is getting handpicked matchups. Kalish is vastly superior defensively, and projects far better than Reddick. After all our bitching about Mcdonald/Cameron getting more playtime than Reddick, I think it is starting to be clear.

Reddick is trade bait.

So Reddick for Beltran and bench Drew?

That makes a ton of sense because the Mets want to rebuild.

It would be Reddick plus quite a bit more if they want Beltran.

I wouldn't give them Reddick and money for a player who is 34 and would play 3 months and then will be a free agent, nope in a 100 million years; and mostly since the kid is young, talented and begins to show arguments to become a major leaguer. If you want to bring him, give 'em their 6 MUSD or whatever he costs -- if we can't afford him via cash, he is not for us --

Besides, if he shows consistency as a everyday player next months, I would give him the job for the playoffs. --and for God's sake, do not shuffle him with D-McD--

Well, if you think about it, it's probably a dumb idea. Beltran is too old. If we were going to trade for him it would have to be someone who's terrible.

Not really. They'll be fortunate if they get a player like Reddick. They get nothing for him at the end of the year. There's a "no arb" clause in his contract. Boras being Boras.

He's also the best available hitter in a seller's market. They'll get a blue chip prospect for him and they won't have to pay his entire salary.

No chance they get a blue chip for him. Absolutely no chance. 2 months of an injury prone OF who can't even be offered arbitration to return anything on your investment. GM's are actually smart, you know.

Reddick has fixed the main problem (the caveat is small sample size) that plagued his status as an MLB player - plate discipline. His improved plate discipline doesn't just allow him to walk more, he also strikes out less and makes much better contact as a result. Kalish is not "vastly superior defensively", both project as corner OFs that could potentially play some CF. Just because Kalish is better defensively, does not mean that Reddick is bad defensively; I would imagine he would be pretty good in a corner outfield spot, and he's got very good advanced fielding metrics for such a short amount of time played (caveat again is small sample size).

The only way the Mets are getting a blue chip prospect for him is if they eat his entire salary.

That's right. Beltran will go to the first team that offers to take his entire salary. They will discuss phonied up prospects afterward to throw the Mets fans some hope. Unfortunately for the Wilpons, their fans are aware of their act. Their lies and deceptions are old news.

We'll see in a couple of weeks. I think there's a very good chance that the Mets get at least one well above average prospect for Beltran.

Yes, but we may want Beltran now, but he had a comeback year this year. He's usually hurt a lot and he's past his prime. May not be a good idea.
