Terry Francona, appearing on WEEI, confirmed the report here last night that Jon Lester would miss his start on Sunday and be replaced by Alfredo Aceves.

 

Lester was scheduled for an MRI at 2:30 today. It sounds like he's headed for the disabled list.

 

Also, Adrian Gonzalez is getting a day off. He is 1 for 6 against Ricky Romero. Gonzalez also is 7 of his last 32 (.219) and has a bit of a stiff neck apparently.

Kevin Youkilis will play first and Yamaico Navarro will be at third.

Carl Crawford (hamstring) is expected to return to the Red Sox around July 18.

Crawford ran the bases Tuesday with no issues and will probably be ready to rock immediately after the All-Star break, but the Sox are going to hold off on activating him until after their July 15-17 series on the turf in Tampa Bay. Crawford will return to a .243/.275/.384 batting line, six home runs, 31 RBI and eight stolen bases.

I think he means that no one will be claiming that Ellsbury is soft. At least, that's what I got from it. I don't know, I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain that's what he meant by saying exactly that.
