I ran into CC at a bar in NYC on my business trip this weekend' date=' and I asked him about what he's doing. He said he's pretty sure he's going to Philadelphia next year.[/quote']

Then you woke up.

Clay Buchholz won’t throw another bullpen session until after he sees a specialist to reassure that he’s moving at an appropriate pace in his recovery from a strained lower back muscle.
mlbrumors.

Buch returns maybe end of august, doubtful. At one point does it become to late for Buch to get some time in AAA, if it gets there would he just enter a ML game or be done?

They've flown him across the country and he's seen three of the best specialists already, all of which have not found anything serious. If there is something actually wrong with him, I'm giving up with the American healthcare system and seeing a voodoo healer from now on.

Well, I hope we can see Buch by early September. But then what in the world could we expect from him. This kid is young he should be able to heal up quick.

Red Sox Rumors: Buchholz, Bedard, Quentin

By Tim Dierkes [July 28, 2011 at 10:46am CST]

The latest on the Red Sox...

A source familiar with Clay Buchholz's back injury tells WEEI's Alex Speier the Red Sox are "'very concerned' that the issue is not muscular, but instead could involve a structural issue such as a bone." Speier says the Sox are "monitoring the starting pitcher market broadly," because of Buchholz as well as concern with current members of the rotation.

Damn!...^^^^

Theo... C'mon!

Come on yourself. We're going to get a guy. Theo needs to not knee-jerk and overpay based on the first asking price. It'll go down to the deadline, someone will blink, and we'll get our guy.

The time is passing and today nothing is closed...but I got your point, won't be easy at all.

Sometimes you dont see certain things on initial studies. As far as I know, he's had one MRI. My guess is they are going to re-do one shortly, and something will show. He's having pain for too long and it doesnt seem to hurt during the process, which doesnt really fit with a muscular issue

I am really getting pissed with Buchholz's back. Each week its something different. Its not structural, it could be structural.I am tired of it already!!They have to make a move for a starting pitcher and just DL this guy!!

This sounds 110% like the Ellsbury hate that we heard all last season.

The more I watch Colon, the less I think he's going to fall off a cliff any time soon. Of course a head could grow out of his arm this offseason.

I'm counting more on him getting hurt. He's just too fat to take all those innings, I'm waiting for him to get hurt and fall down on the mound (Happened to Wells at my first Fenway game in '06, I'm pretty sure the park shook and the ground cracked.)

Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said Sunday that there is a high level of concern with Clay Buchholz and that the team thinks they know what is wrong.

No further details were provided, except that the Sox would get a second opinion to confirm their suspicions before going public with the information. While we don't know any details, the fact that the team wants to confirm their fears does not bode well for Buchholz's status. Epstein also added that the acquisition of Erik Bedard had a lot to do with Buchholz's injury. The young righty is scheduled to meet with a specialist in Los Angeles on Monday.

You guys should probably trust me on this medical thing. I kinda know what I'm doing

I know Lackey has been in a rut this year, but to be honest with you, if Buchholz isn't available for the post season, we've got a rotation of:

Beckett (3.07 Postseason ERA, 93.2 IP)

Lester (2.57 PS ERA, 42 IP)

Lackey (3.12 PS ERA, 78 IP)

Combine that with our offense, and I feel very confident that we can get it done.

Plus the unproven Bedard' date=' who is a good power lefty who's a blank slate in the playoffs.[/quote']

Exactly. If he can get that cutter in on a righty and spin that knee buckling hook, he could become 2007-esque, when he had a 3.16 ERA with Baltimore.

Once again, people skewered me for giving a sound medical opinion and once again, I look to be right. You guys should be full of crow from the ellsbury fiasco last yr, but the second helping is comin

Normally I respect your opinion on these matters. But you had no idea on this one. He saw several specialists, and they all confirmed the same thing. All you had was conjecture.

Not true. Once again, the info gathered was an MRI right after initial injury being unremarkable. Persistence of pain, especially after a workout doesn't sound muscular at all. Typically muscular pain is during exertion, not typically after. And muscle injuries don't "linger", they either re-pull or they get better. Kinda like running on a pulled hammy, it may be a little sore but if you overdo it, it pulls again. Nothing about his reported symptoms sounded muscular. I called it from about 2 weeks. It's now almost 6 weeks, and you guys called me a homer. Here's your crow

Also, pulled muscles bleed, so you can see that on the scan. Inflammation can obscure a disc issue, which is why most people with back injuries that aren't neurologically compromising should get MRIs after the swelling goes down. My guess is that the exam will lead to another MRI where the problem will be found

Okay, extremely optimistic here but what if it turns out he isn't done for the year and can come back by late August or September? How amazing would our rotation be?
