Guardians just took Dillon Howard who had some connections to being taken by the Yankees. In my opinion, the Yankees should have taken Howard with their first pick, and now they won't have a shot at him with their 2nd pick.

The Blue Jays take another predatory pick taking Daniel Norris (a pitcher I had wanted at #40 along with Meo who was taken earlier). It's a tough sign, but it looked like he (along with Tyler Beede) had Boston written all over him. I'm not sure if Toronto will be able to sign all of the guys, but they are certainly sticking it to Boston right now.

The Blue Jays make another epic pick with John Stilson, however it's really risky due to a big injury. I didn't think that he was going to sign, but if the Blue Jays sign him then that's a huge draft victory.

The sox take another HS catcher with Jordan Weems.

On another note, a few Sox draft picks that didn't sign have been drafted already. Alex Meyer was a first round pick to the Nationals, Zeke DeVoss was taken today by the Cubs at 98, and Ricky Oropesa was taken at 116.

Like the Weems pick as well. We drafted his brother and traded him for Hairston a few yrs ago. His brother was a hell of a defensive catcher, his offensive tools lacked. This kid sounds like he has better offensive tools than his brother

Sox get Noe Ramirez in the 4th round. I think he was ranked at #93 going into the draft and taken at 142. He's a college RHP from Cal State Fullerton, even learned a changeup from teammate Ricky Romero.

The Sox take Markus Betts with their 5th round pick. I'm kind of disappointed that the Sox didn't take a high profile guy with the 2nd-5th pick. I think at this point I'm done watching the draft. I haven't really been excited since we took Owens at 36.

Ital, you need to remember that picks in the first 10 rounds are slotted, and going overslot in those rounds catches the ire of Selig. A LOT of overslot guys go after the 10th round. That is what I am waiting for, although I do think the sox did a good job of getting projectable young players as well

I understand, but it's been frustrating watching a lot of the top guys who slipped get picked up round after round while the Sox end up taking somewhat "safe" guys for the past few rounds. I just wanted one HR overslot pick.

I'm sure that the Sox draft is and will be fine. I trust the Sox staff and they rarely let me down. I'm just not watching pick after pick anymore to see the Sox take someone I haven't heard of. lol

Case and point, the Rangers take OF Derek Fisher, a high rated pick that I wanted the Sox to take since the 2nd round. And the Rangers got him in the 6th round a pick or two after the Red Sox made their 6th round pick. FML.

And as I'm typing this Josh Osich (another high ranked player I wanted) goes to SF I think shortly thereafter. JTFC Boston where are the HR picks?

The Red Sox don't draft for power.

I don't mean HR picks as in power threats, or even hitters for that matter. I meant "HR picks" as in dynamite "slam dunk" picks with big names being taken later than they should be and Boston getting them late because of money. I meant "HR" in the metaphorical sense. And we haven't had a big pick thus far today. Keith Law said he loved our day 1 draft but wasn't really excited about what we've done thus far today. It's been bland.

The thing is, it is going to take awhile to actually get all the info on the HS kids, and Boston nabbed a bunch of them. I think their second day is EXACTLY how they should be drafting. They have the funds to fill in short term gaps, but if you get guys who are projectable at a younger age, you might hit it big. Take a look at the list of elite players over the past 20 yrs, and you will see that a significant disparity exists between being HS draftees and college ones

Right, but some of the HR picks that got glossed over were also HS picks. They were just higher rated ones.
