The MLB Draft is tomorrow! Not everyone here cares, but I'll be tracking it. According to Theo this past week is the busiest time of the year.

27. CIN: Robert Stephenson (RHP, HS)

28. ATL: Sean Gilmartin (LHP, Florida State)

29. SF: Joe Panik (SS, St. Johns)

30. MIN: Levi Michael (SS, UNC)

31. TBR: Mikie Mahtook (OF, LSU)

32. TBR: Jake Hager (SS, HS)

33. TEX: Kevin Matthews (LHP, HS)

Sox also have the 36th and 40th picks. The Yankees' first pick is #51.

Even though this is in the Red Sox Minor League forum, this can be used for the entire draft. I'm curious to see what people who are knowledgeable about this stuff have to say (Jacko, ORS, and others).

Tampa Bay Rays have the 24th, 31st, 32nd, 38th, 41st, 42nd, 52nd, 56th, 59th and 60th picks. 10 out of 60 picks, that's insane.

Edit: The article I got the numbers from the first time were wrong. Found a better source.

I hear lots of rumors about the Red Sox taking Alex Meyer out of Kentucky. Big kid with great stuff' date=' but not a lot of command.[/quote']

I doubt that we take him. We took him in the 20th round of 2008 and he didn't sign. I see the Red Sox taking someone like Josh Bell (OF), Tyler Beede (RHP), one of the catchers (Blake Swihart) or (Austin Hedges) and another pitcher (probably the best available). Another name to keep an eye out for I think is Brandon Nimmo (OF)

That said, how many rounds are tonight?

I hope to God that Sonny Gray from Vandy drops to us at 19. He's got absolutely filthy stuff. I've seen him throw over at Vandy a couple times, dude is nasty.

2.01 ERA in the SEC.

He wanted to go to college in 2008, and wanted a big sum to sign. Not many people think he's going to go back to Kentucky for a senior season.

I've heard rumours about Milwaukee and San Diego going with safe picks (reaches). This would increase the likelihood that one of those top pitchers (in which Gray is a part of) would reach us at 19. I personally think that the Sox take one of those pitchers that drops at 19, Bell at 26, Beede at 36, and one of those catchers at 40. Of course they have been linked to Nimmo as well, so that might be an alternative if they miss out on Bell.

If we get that combination, in any order, we'd have a good job regardless of what our other picks are.

The Cubs have been linked to a Cuban lefty Onelki Garcia Speck, who was rated as a sandwich round talent, so if more teams keep reaching then a better pick will fall to us. I hope this rumour is true as well as the ones about San Diego and Milwaukee.

I'm hearing that Swihart, one of the catchers that we're connected to, is getting some chat towards the top/middle of the first round, which might mean that he gets taken before we pick, but also might mean that a higher pick might drop to us. Either way, time better hurry up, I feel like Eric Cartman waiting for the Nintendo Wii to come out.

Haha, if you use a time capsule, why not just move forward in time to see how the prospects actually turned out

Then I might shoot myself when Francona mismanages them. ;)

Baseball is so strange in that teams draft positions that they have great talent at already (i.e. the Tribe just drafting Lindor with Asdrubal playing now). You don't see that in football, at least not in the 1st round.

The Nationals could be a very scary team in a few years.. Zimmerman' date=' [b']Strasburg[/b], Harper and now Rendon? Wow.

If he's ever healthy. They built him up to be so good, that's what I hate about hype, if that if they start to have injuries, he'll never live it down if he isn't absolutely the sickest pitcher we've seen in a while. He's got the Mark Prior hype treatment.
