How has he sucked all year? His ERA was 3.36 coming into tonight. He's coming off a great start in Cleveland.

Too many pitches to get through 6 inning on most starts. Going fullcount too many (only Drabek as as much), HRs given up.

It hasn't been good. ERA's not a good stat. His FIP is bad.

Damn Lester really isn't that good this year

Lester has really sucked all year.

Really guys??? The dude is 7-1 on a team that hasn't been that good until recently, his ERA was 3.36 coming into the game (albeit 3.59 at the end of the 3rd inning) and has been known to have early season troubles. He still has good counting numbers as well as pitching ratios. Yeah, he's had a few starts recently, but it hasn't been for the entire season, which I remind you is still pretty young.

There are only 2 starts this season where he hasn't gone at least 6 innings. Keep in mind that last year, the only starter to last very long without a start under 6 innings, was Brett f***** Myers. Maybe if our bullpen, offense, and bullpen/offense management were better, this wouldn't be as big of a deal.

I didn't say he was bad, he has just struggled and isn't as efficent as he has been in years past. He's still striking out people at a high rate and his ERA and wins are good, but that doen't mean he has been on this year. He's usually just giving us 6 innings a game and working hard in all of those innings. The 7 wins are because he has pitched well enough to win and we score a lot of runs. He's not the same pitcher he has been in the past

Me being sabermetrically retarded, I just looked up FIP and it seems like it's ERA without the variable of fielders. Is that what it is?

Also, Pedey is the man.

My apologies, I wasn't sure how else to have interpreted your earlier post. I took more umbrage to the fact that you said "this year" instead of "recently" If you just said "he isn't pitching that good recently" then I wouldn't have said anything. But as far as the entire season is concerned, there are plenty of better concerns about the Sox than Lester. In addition, keep in mind that the offense hasn't been that good all year. Just because they are scoring 14 runs a game here and there now, doesn't mean that they weren't an NL West offense earlier on.

I hear yeah but I think you can agree he doesn't look as good as we thought he would. I'm not worried about Lester at all he's still a stud!! I would just love to see one of those Lester 2 hit no run 8IP performances.

He's had a gem or two this year. He's still Jon Lester and the Jon Lester numbers will be there by year's end. I'm sure a lot of guys would love to have his "struggles"
