I'm telling you, 2k11 never lies. I was playing a game where Dice K was perfect through 5, then everything froze and now the game wont work. And a day later he was DL'd.

The nice thing about our depth (or depressing thing about the suck in the back of our rotation) is that we were able to fill in for these guys without breaking a sweat. I don't see Wake and Aceves being a significant downgrade, and may even be an upgrade from the output we've been getting. Now if this had happened to Beckett & Lester rather than Lack & Dice on the other hand....

Depends on what you are comparing them to. If you are comparing Wake and Aceves to the suck that DiceK and Lackey are putting up this yr, then yeah, I am sure they can outdo that. If you are talking about career norms, then I highly doubt they can duplicate

I like Millwood much better than Dice K or Wakefield. Hopefully' date=' he has something left.[/quote']

I think we're better just trying Weiland till LAckey gets back and have Aceves beat out Wakefield for the other spot.

Weiland is not close to ready. Plus, wasn't he a closer in college?

Damn....

This offseason I claimed they needed to sign another starting pitcher to kick Lackey, Beckett and Dice K in the ass.

Little did I know that they REALLYYYY needed a starting pitcher to REPLACE DiceK or Lackey.

Theo needs to call Pedro and convince him that he is too young to be relaxing under a mango tree, and that he should come back to the Sox for one last wild ride.

I am not comfortable with Pedro coming back.

If he is mopping up innings while Wakefield is getting starts, then fine.

I love Pedro. He was one of my favorites growing up, Ill never forget watching the 99 allstar game. I do not want to see Pedro come back and pitch poorly. I dont want him to embarrass himself. I dont want him to tarnish what he left with.

Agree 100%.

There are better options out there than a 39yo Pedro.

I am not sure 100% there are better options out there in terms of FA.

My take on Pedro returning is a selfish one. I do not want to see him fail, and I think he will fail. He got the most he could out of that 5'10 165 LB body. Hes all done in terms of a successful pitcher. You could argue he was done after the 2005 season (6 years ago) with the Mets, and if you look deeper, the last dominant season he had was in 2003 as he became very hittable in 2004. That was 8 years ago.

He doesnt have the stuff he used to, at this point I would say hes throwing MAYBE mid 80's. He hasnt played competitive ball in months so he will be rusty and you cant be rusty playing in Fenway. You cant throw 84-85 MPH and make mistakes. Mistakes in the AL east are wallballs and homers. This isnt PHI. This isnt the weak hitting NL.

There might not be a "better" option, but that doesnt mean that Pedro is a good one either. Do you want to see him tarnish all the great things he did in a Sox uniform?

What is the deal with Bowden?

Wasn't he a starter and supposed to be good?

is he just a bullpen arm now or can he start?

Bowden has been given a few opportunities over the past couple of seasons to do something.

Everytime he comes up, its the same old garbage.

He is only a 23 year old pitcher in the minors, but his career appears to be ending up as a AAAA pitcher. He might have some usefullness as a reliever, but hes been a disappointment as a starting pitcher.

He is at this point, only relieving in the minors. At 23 years old, I would say they have given up on him as a starting pitcher.

So we really have no good internal or external options for pitchers' date=' Wake and Aceves it is then.[/quote']

Until Doubront is healthy. He replaces Wakefield in the rotation when hes healthy.

I feel the same way. I wouldn't want Pedro to tarnish his career by coming back as an average to less than average pitcher, but I don't think he would come back unless he thought he could perform at a high level. I think Pedro is very aware of his legacy. He did have 4 plus pitches. Without the plus fastball, he could probably still be effective with his command of the cutter, curve and change up. IMO, he'd be much more effective than Wakefield or Dice K. Theo, make the call and have him start to ramp up. Pedro! Pedro!

Colon switched to hotter Tositos. That did it.

Buchholz 127 pitches last night? The bullpen solution is less bullpen--especially in the 6th and 7th innings.

I'm still waiting for the moment when you realize that it's 2011 and not 1971 bro.

Can't have it both ways and bitch when Tito leaves his starters when they obviously have nothing then turn around and complain about pitch counts. The way pitchers are handled is what it is, because with advanced scouting reports, more refined hitting approaches and bigger, more powerful athletes at the plate, it's simply a different game.

If Dice-K gets TJS and is out until the end of our contract I will go insane. I will throw a large party. All of Talksox is invited. We will drink Sake and eat Sushi and go nuts
