"It's only early May. It's only early May. It's only early May."

Ok. I'm insanely frustrated with this team, but I'm going to try to take a step back and be realistic.

After starting 2-10, the Red Sox have now gone 15-9 in their last 24 games. Doesn't seem like it at all. To me, it seems like we've been watching .500 baseball since then, but we haven't. We've seen .625 baseball, and if you ask me, we still aren't clicking, so here's what that means.

After starting 2-10, if the Red Sox play at a .625 clip for the remainder of the season, they will end up at 96-66 on the season. Basically, just keep playing like we have been since April 16th.

Here's the good thing about that. I don't think there is a single analyst, opponent, or fan that would say that the Red Sox are playing up to their potential right now. And even with that, the Sox are still finding ways to put themselves in a position to win 95-96 games this year.

As bad as that loss was last night, we shelled out 16 hits and hit 3 HR. An insanely uncommon "error" (that wasn't an error in the box score) by Gonzalez, an outing by Lester where he found himself getting squeezed early and often, dumb baserunning mistake by Ellsbury, and an uncommon bullpen outing by Bard all lead to a 6-5 10 inning loss.

We'll figure it out. I know everyone in here wants to beat their heads against a wall right now after this game but we're close. Really, really close to breaking out.

And how sweet will it be to finally hit that stride (and .500) in the Bronx?

Every team hits a rough stretch during the season. The Sox hit theirs right out of the gate. The are keeping it together and not letting it ruin the team psyche. They are quickly developing a sense of urgency and when they finally get on a roll, I expect that they will have some prolonged dominant streaks. Let the Yankees continue on their merry way with their aging team and retreads. The wheels will start to come off. When the wheels start to wobble, will they have what it takes to keep on course and will Cashman be able to bring in the necessary reinforcements? The s*** will start to hit the fan sooner or later. Colon could blow a fatty embolism at any moment.

Exactly.

The Yankees are 4.5 games on on the Red Sox and, excuse me if I'm being delusional, but I don't see Freddy Garcia throwing to a 2.61 ERA all season. Bartolo Colon had a 2.77 ERA on April 27th, but his past 2 starts he's allowed 8 ER in 11.1 IP (6.35 ERA), so the wheels are really starting to fall off there, not to mention he hasn't touched 100 IP since 2005. Their SP have completely overachieved this year, but don't fret. It will all catch up to them this weekend.

Buchholz vs Colon

Beckett vs Sabathia

Lester vs Garcia

Sox have heavy advantages in 2 of the 3 match ups, and Beckett vs Sabathia is a toss up.

Wisdom that can only be gleaned from many years of fandom.

What concerns me is that this is a healthy team right now, and still can't get anything going. What will happen when significant players get hurt? The team's depth-- Scutaro, Kalish, Navarro-- are all DLed, and the team will struggle to get replacement value.

The games they are winning are close games. Lose one major bullpen arm, and close games go the other way. Lose one starter, and Tito is going to start Wakefield. Lose either Pedroia or Youkilis, and this team is insanely lefthanded.

I agree we do have heavy advantages in 2 of the 3 games and Beckett already beat CC once this year but it seems that when this team has heavy advantages in terms of starters our lineup really struggles. I am going to be very pissed if we make Colon and Garcia look like they are actually good pitchers. It's one thing to do it against say the Mariners but to do it aginst the Yankees, that will be unexceptable.

Oh yeah also win tonight

On that note

Dear John Lackey,

Please don't suck balls like you usually do.

Thanks

Iggy gets a start! This should be interesting.

I'm kind of intreged to see how he does.

Once again just win the f***ing game so we can destroy Colon on Friday and get to .500

Posted
At this point, I don't care how we do it. I don't care if we go hitless and score 8 runs on walks and errors and win 8-7.

just win.

That would be one hell of a game!

And we will probably need to score 8 tonight with Lackey on the mound

Hopefully the Sox win but I have to hope my ex-roommate Jessie Litsch throws well! SFCC panthers Alum!

But if he gets rocked...I'll be sure to thank him ;)

I agree completely.

Probably need more than 8. Last game for Lackey he gave up 8 in only 4 innings on the mound. So lets make that 15 we need to score, in order to be safe.

I would never throw out all the great performances from Lackey. Some of the best pitching I have ever seen has come from him. But when your last start was 6 days ago and had a 18.00 ERA, it's kinda hard to just forget.
Posted
When Dice-K had that terrible outing vs the Rays you know what happened his start after that? Everyone quickly forgot it. Basically whenever someone shits the bed they expect them to suck in their next start.

You got this one. Lol.

I like how you guys only remember Lackey's bad games and throw out his good games like they never happened.

Here's to Lackey pitching a gem so people can eat crow. Toast*

if you throw a bad game 75% of the time people will remember the majority.

I'm excited to see Iglesias start, and this is the first game I will be here for in a while.

Exactly, for what we are paying Lackey he should throw a good game at least 75% of the time.

Here's to hoping RSFFL is correct and I have to eat crow!
