Is there really any amount of money that you could pay the Yankees to throw a playoff series to the Red Sox? I'm sure if it there was someone would have tried it

A) Strong thread title for an article that says there is a "hint" that it was thrown.

B ) Don't care, it was almost a century ago.

A ) Meant to put a question mark on the thread title. Wasn't trying to spew out a questionable theory as fact.

B ) If you don't care, then don't post. Was just providing an article that sheds some insight into Boston Red Sox past. I think it applies seeing as this is a Boston Red Sox forum.

It would be interesting but I really don't think it's possible these days. The players make so much money that you'd really have to throw a substancial amount of dough at them for them to do it. These days large bets are tracked very well in Vegas and I just don't think there is any bogus syndication outside of Vegas that can front or invest that kind of money just to fix a game.

I wasn't necessarily talking about gambling:lol:

But if I don't post, how else will my post count go up???

If the Sox bought out the Cubs back then got to wonder if they did the same with the Rockies and Cardinals. ;)

If you agree with a post, just quote it without giving your opinion. Your post count will go up in no time.

The Red Sox didn't "throw" the World Series, it was the Cubs, MAYBE, who did. It is the Cubs, MAYBE, who are tainted. Not the Red Sox.

Some people like to mimic the media. ESPN has a NY bias (their main market), and never misses an opportunity to dig at the Red Sox.

You could say every World Series the Yankees won in the 1920s was tainted. Because they won them with key players (more than just the Babe) bought from the Red Sox championship teams a few years before--to turn a losing American League NY team around. By just changing uniforms. You won't hear that on ESPN.

I said the title may have been tainted, not the Red Sox team. Obviously the Red Sox did nothign wrong. But if you play for a title and you later learn your opposition tanked for a payday... would you feel 100% fufilled? Or like you completely earned it? No.

Also, the part I bolded in your post really doesn't make much sense to me.

Oh come on, what on earth are the odds of the Cubs actually winning the world series?

Nah, instead of paying off other teams they decided it would be more economic to send Ortiz and Manny a lifetime supply of PED's. ;)

Tainted is not the right word. Tainted title implies tainted Red Sox.

The Yankees, by the way, bought their first championships in the early 1920s. Courtesy of the Red Sox. You could look it up.
