Pop up HR. ********.
Was it a first row special? I swear that the Yankees lead all of baseball in first row HRs. Last night Grandy's first HR grazed the wall on the way down.

Wind carry it a little. Even Grandy thought he didn't get enough for it.

If a-god played at that stadium he could

That's true. Teixeira has nearly twice as many home runs at home as he does on the road. Apply that to Gonzo's stats and he'd have over 30.

The decision to pinch run Martin for Cervelli is odd for a couple different reasons.

And I'm not sure they should be giving Fernando Rodney free outs.

They'll DL him and bring up Jesus.

Haha I don't think that decision was made between his AB and Gardner's AB.

I didn't say they did. Chances are he's hurt if they pinch ran with him with the backup catcher who is even slower.

The Angels couldn't have handed the Yankees the game any more than that. An error on the most routine of plays should have ended the inning and Cano hits a grand slam the next at bat.

He didn't look hurt at all and the trainer never came out. I just think, right or wrong, that Girardi felt Martin had a better chance to score from second on a single than Cervelli did.

I think Downs really outsmarted himself there. Instead of feeding Cano a heavy diet of breaking balls (like he did against Granderson and has done against Cano in the past), he tried to pound him inside with fastballs.

Weird AB against Trumbo. Got squeezed on 1-2 and then what looked like a pretty clear missed check swing call on 2-2. Didn't end up mattering though.

Even if he did believe that the slower runner had a better chance of scoring, you must admit it's pretty unconventional to use your second catcher as a pinch runner.

For as much crap as Girardi gets in this thread, what the announcers are saying about him right now really is true. Girardi does a great job of managing the bullpen. Without a legitimate set up man most of the year last year the Yankees record when leading after 7 innings was ridiculous. I think they lost something like 2 or 3 games.

Completely agreed.

Mo gives up another home run. Remember when I pointed out how his cutter looked flat 2 or 3 weeks ago and everyone disagreed and said he just had bad luck?

EDIT - Since that appearance he's given up 6 ER in 6.2 innings.

It hasn't really been since then though. That outing was 7/24 vs OAK. In his next four outings (7/26 vs SEA, 7/31 vs BAL, 8/1 vs CWS, and 8/5 vs BOS) he threw the ball as good as ever, giving up just one infield hit. All of those those runs (and it's 4, not 6) have been in his last three outings, where he was definitely bad in each.

What concerned me today was that after the HR to Branyon, he didn't even feel comfortable throwing his cutter in to the lefties. He threw every single pitch from that point forward away. It's likely just a rough patch ... he goes through a couple bad weeks every single year, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on going forward.

So we were tied, I went up to check on my not so sleeping daughter, come back, and we're down 2-0. Baby monitor goes off, run back upstairs, come back down, now 3-0. That kid is gonna cry it out for now on
