This is going to be a big offseason in terms of Cliff Lee news. And since he isnt a Yankee or a Red Sox yet, he doesnt belong in either forum. And since both sides will be deeply interested in his rumors, he doesnt really belong in the MLB hot stove thread. So, here is the latest on him

A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that Cliff Lee was "not terribly happy in Texas" and is concerned about how his body would hold up pitching in the Texas heat.

Lee is a great pitcher no matter the venue, but he is 32 years old and dealt with a back problem during the second half of the season. July and August in New York aren't exactly a treat, either, but if this is a legitimate concern, it could give the Yankees an advantage should he receive similar offers.

This could be really, really good news for us

Stop with the drama. The Yankees are going to do what they did with CC. Even though he didn't want to play in NY, they made sure he ended up there. Lee will probably be the same way.

My only hope is that the Yankees need to overextend and that he comes back to Earth.

One of my only hopes is that he someone how gets 7 years from the Yankees. Or that the Nats throw 6 years 150M at him and he takes it :D

Cliff Lee is concerned with how his body will hold up in hot weather? rofl

The guy is full of s*** with that one.

His pay will hold up much better in Texas because they have no state income tax. That's his real concern.

Will our hitters have more success against Lee if the Yankees overpay for him? After we dropped the second nuke on Japan, I don't think any of the Japanese thought; "the Americans really screwed themselves. The overpaid for that second bomb by a lot". I don't understand why people are wishing for a long expensive contract with the Yankees. It's not as if it would cripple the Yanks even if he died the day after signing the contract, and our guys would still have to face Lee and Sabathia about 8 times a year for several years. They are going to face Lee, not the Yankees ROE.

But as the premier pitcher on the market, his marketting opportunities will be much bigger. CC has definitely taken advantage of that

The Japanese didn't have nukes to send back. The Sox have Buch and Lester. In a war of attrition, overspending on one aspect of the military and getting destroyed in another will change the outcome.

Deep in the wallets of Texas: One baseball man with knowledge of the Rangers' massive new TV deal says people are overestimating the impact that contract will have on their ability to bring back Cliff Lee.

For one thing, the new deal doesn't kick in until 2015, when Lee would be in the fifth season of his next contract.

For another, Rumblings was told, the new Rangers ownership has already used a large chunk of the upcoming TV money, which it collected up front as a signing bonus, to help finance its purchase of the franchise.

And, finally, the Rangers are about to lose their status as a revenue-sharing taker, which was allowing them to collect $8 million to $15 million a year.

So the bottom line is that this TV deal is not going to be worth an extra $80 million a season, as some people have speculated, and will have only minimal impact initially. Which means the Rangers still have to decide if it's a sane business decision to outbid the Yankees in years and dollars on a player the Yankees seem determined to sign. We wish them luck on that.

ESPN

Seems legit. Maybe the Rangers arent going to cross the $20 mil per season threshold?

Except that when we're 1-1 starting game 3 of the ALCS comes and Burnett is on the mound, we will be rejoicing.

Hughes, or maybe even Pettitte if we're talking about next year.
