question if sox get him will he play LF?

I would think so just because Drew has been so good in right at Fenway. Werth has a good arm for a right fielder. His arm is well above average for left field.

Theo: Hey Scott we wanted to touch base with you about Werth.

Scott: Good I was hoping you would. That's why I told him to reject 4/66 from Philly.

Theo: You already rejected 4/66m?

Scott: Well sure. We expect to easily top that.

Theo: click

If they do manage to sign him, I wouldn't be shocked to see JD moved to LF and Werth stays in RF. I know JD plays a great RF. But he could benefit from a move to the LF physically.

If thats the case I hope Nava gets a shot over Cameron or Patterson.

Werth hit a HR in the play-offs and I noticed a lot of his teamates just sat on the bench and didn't get up to give him congrats or anything. Is he not a "club house guy"?

Mountain out of a molehill. If Theo hadn't contacted Boras at least once that would have been the news item. Let's see if anything comes of it.

Werth would be a good signing. I hope he goes elsewhere' date=' but it makes too much sense[/quote']

It does. He's a similar but, IMO, better all around player than Jason Bay. His athleticism would play much better than Bay's did in LF and he would solidify the bottom of the order like JD Drew has for the past few years, hopefully better.

I also agree its a great fit from a talent and need stand point. Not sure if I see the Red Sox giving him want he wants though. Turning down 4/66M to stay at home is a red flag for me. He either wants more money and or years which is problematic. Or he has warn his welcome out in Philly and really ants to get out of there. Which would concern me for the long haul as well.

How much is realistic? I read a suggestion that he could be looking for $100mil+ Is anyone going to give that kind of $ to him?
Screw him. Trade for Beltran.

I read Crawford was looking for 100M plus. Werth turned down 4/66M to stay in Philly. So it will probably be more then that. 4-5 years at 15-17M per is probably around what he gets.

You know he was terrible last season. Still, I would be surprised to see them go out and ink Werth when they had the chance to Bay(a guy that proved he could play in Boston) because they just seem too similar of players.

Fairly weak link--no offense to you personally.

I would believe the Phillies are interested in keeping him, but I'd be surprised if their evaluation of Jayson Werth has changed in the past week or so. I've always thought he should be a natural fit to stay in Philly and didn't understand the assumption that he was leaving.

I just think that testing FA is usually too tempting to pass up.

So the desperate Mets overpaid for Bay at 4/66, and now eveybody is supposed to match it? That's what keeps the salary spiral moving higher.

They sign Werth, they still haven't fixed the holes at 3B and catcher. My guess is they get a fix on the latter positions before they go after an outfielder.

It's a free market. It's supply and demand, etc etc etc. Bay set the market, Werth will reset it. Until there is deflation, they'll keep spiralling higher and higher

I don't see him in Boston.

Too much money for an above average NL player.

32 yrs old and wants 5 years and or 17 mil+.

No.

Agreed. He's a fine player but he's going to be grossly overpaid this off season. I just hope that it isn't Boston making the mistake.

Yeah..that would be great... Then we could watch him begin another DL Train.. His knees are toast.. Terrible idea.
He has lost some range, but he is healthy, and he would be very motivated because he'd be playing for his next contract. I think the one year commitment to Beltran would be preferable to committing for 4 or 5 years for Werth.
