Saw the blurb at Yahoo as I was looking up something else. Absolutely stunned.

Is this a sign that the team is officially "transitioning" and building up its younger core instead of shooting full-out for a championship at this time?

Almost completed, it would send draft picks to NE. Last report I saw was that the deal was likely to happen sometime today.

The big question is what will the Pats do to replace Moss?

Package the 2nd and 3rd round picks for Vincent Jackson? Isn't that what the Chargers were asking for?

I like this trade for the Pats. Moss hasn't been exactly the deep threat the last 2 years that he was when he first got here, plus it was looking more and more likely that he wouldn't be back. It sucks Moss is gone, cause he was a great player and even more surprising, a model teammate, but this was something that had to be done. Return on investment.

Moss hasn't been a huge factor in games for the most part. the Pats win on D, special teams and the short game when they're at their best, Moss is more of a luxury than a necessity.

They play the Patriots attack best with Welker leading the charge and Moss's primary job is to draw coverage, as long as they have *a* deep threat to complement Wes they don't need one as high-end as Moss, it's like hauling your groceries around with a Lambourghini to have him on the staff the last couple years..

Knowing the Patriots, if they don't trade the picks for Jackson (who I thought was going to the Vikings too), then the Pats will trade the 3rd round pick for a future 2nd round pick. They did that a few years ago to the Jaguars and again this past year to either the Cardinals or Raiders.

It sounds like they just get 1 pick, 3rd rounder. Moss wanted out of New England, so the Vikings got him for cheap.

Pats didn't have much leverage, knowing the Vikings would only give up so much for a one year rental.

The Vikings are reportedly in talks with Moss for a new contract. Moss said earlier this season he wanted a new contract, which is why this deal went through. Or at least part of the reason.

A 3rd round pick for an elite WR on a team trying to go to the Super Bowl? This takes away your vertical passing threat and forces more pressure down on Wes Welker. This is a horrible in season move

Realistically though, the numbers don't lie. Moss hasn't been a factor vertically one time this year. Brady's got more interceptions going up top to Moss than they have grabs. You have to change the culture around this team. Bruschi said it best, they get rid of an evident locker room cancer on a young team, you give your young guys burn in a year where the Pats obviously aren't Super Bowl contenders with or without Moss, and you load up on picks for a draft with two amazing offensive playmakers with Ingram and Green.

I figured that Moss would have been worth more than a 3rd rounder. In any case, they might just be earning a better draft positions themselves by forcing themselves to lose more games because of this trade. I think it's a horrible short term move, but it might be a reasonable long term one, considering the potential troubles in signing Moss long term, and the ability to find good players in the draft. Let's just hope that one of them is a good defensive player. ;)

Moss is ALWAYS a factor. If he's not getting catches, he's stretching the field, so that someone can get the ball. Take off the rosey-colored glasses, you guys f***ed up with this trade. He's someone who has to be accounted for at all times, and whether he's getting lots of passes, or playing the role of a decoy, he's of lots of use. He demands lots of coverage.

I don't think that trading Moss was necessarily a bad idea, but I think that they should have stood pat if all they were going to get was a 3rd round pick.

It's a stupid short-term deal. Very. I just don't see why the Pats would do it. I'm more shocked than filled with joy about this. Why would you trade one of the best receivers in the NFL away for absolutely nothing? But yeah, Moss, Rice, Harvin, Shiancoe and Peterson sounds really, really nice right now.

But the thing is, Moss really isn't one of the best receivers in the NFL anymore. He doesn't provide the same skills as he used to on deep routes. He can't run as fast, he can't jump as high. He's still a good asset to have, but I'm happy we got rid of him when we did. I think we can be better without him. We don't have to waste time and plays that won't work giving him targets to keep him happy.

Moss hasn't done much of anything this year except for pout, and pretty much his only worth to the team came in him stretching the defense. Good riddance.

Yes he does. He still has an elite 40 time, he still gets up higher than everyone else. You're delusional as hell dude.

Out of curiosity, how do you know what Moss' current 40 time is?

He was getting up REAL high in the first four weeks of the season when he didn't catch a single deep ball. He's still a good player, but he's not the elite WR everyone thinks he still is. I love the guy, and he played his heart out when he was here, but its just time to move on. He was an ******* in the locker room and got in a tussle with Bill O'Brien in the middle of the Miami game, he had no catches...coincidence? He's still the diva he always was, it was just suppressed when he first got here because he got a real taste of winning and playing with a great QB. He's not the player he was, I would say that he's not even a top 15 WR anymore. Should we have gotten more? Yeah, but it's less about the pick than it is changing the culture of our team and locker room.

I was hoping for Percy Harvin or Sidney Rice, with the assumption that the Vikings had a deal already in place. I guess Moss was a lot more disgruntled than Belichick was letting on.

Good move by NE.

No more wasted downs by throwing deep incomplete passes just to make him feel happy.

Stretch the field? Yeah when he feels like selling out a go route.

Pretty sweet block he whiffed on last week on a WR screen too.

This team has the weapons to go over the middle and use play action. They have also been able to run the ball a little.

How many championships did they win with Moss? They won them with guys like Brown, Patten and Branch. HOF? Sure....Ill take a ring over your career achievements Randy. See ya later.

Lol, why don't we just give you Adrian Peterson too. Moss is good, but Rice is better. Harvin is our slot option. Moss wanted out, that's why he came cheap.
