Pettitte after last night's game:

"I felt I was going to have a good outing,’’ Pettitte said. “I got locked in mechanically. The ball came out of my hand good. Jorge called a great game so that got me in a good rhythm. We were on the same page from the get-go that makes you settle in a lot easier. Also, the shots really helped. We got dosage just right."

Despite the soft run' date=' Pettitte has looked sharp.[/quote']

I said this at the beginning of the game (even with Andy having given up four base runners in two innings), because I thought it had some predictive value. Despite the base runners, it was apparent early on to me that this the Andy Pettitte from the first half, instead of the one from his last two regular season starts.

He was in complete command from the outset last night, hitting his spots with his fastball, cutter, and curve ball. For the most part, he seemed to scrap the changeup last night (a pitch that was surprisingly affective for him early in the season), but that's OK when he has the other three pitches working so well.

Now that I'm back around I just wanna say whats up to everyone. Great series so far, looking forward to what I hope will be another great October! It'll be fun, that's for sure.

If what we saw from Pettitte is the current Pettitte and now just a one shot wonder, then we have a shot at this thing. He was the wild card. CC will bounce back, I have no doubt. And I am betting Hughes can be serviceable, albeit not dominant. We needed another starter who could step up in a short series and Pettitte answered the bell. I am actually very glad we didnt play Texas in a short series. Having to face Cliff Lee twice and not having a margin for error outside of his games is tough. We can beat him, but he is exactly the kind of pitcher who dominates us. Lefty, touch and feel guy who doesnt walk anyone. But in a 7 gamer, he still will go probably only twice while we'll have CC going 3 times and Pettitte and Hughes twice. Not bad, IMO

Because there's no off day between games four and five AJ will almost certainly have to start a potential game five in the ALCS (if the Yankees make it).

I would bet that we'll be going 3 man rotation unless we are way up' date=' and obviously if we get there. Gotta finish off those pesky Twins[/quote']

They'll absolutely use a three man rotation in the ALDS. But if they advance, they'll be forced to go with a four man rotation if the series goes past four games.

EDIT: I misread your post. I'd be pretty stunned, all things considered, if they were willing to go with Pettitte and Hughes on short rest.

CC goes in games 1, 4, and 7 if needed. Guarantee it, unless we are up 3-0 come game 4. I think the series will be played by ear. If we are down 3-1 after game 4, I highly doubt AJ goes. If we are up 3-0 come game 4, we'll go 4 man. Heck, we might go 4 man if we are up 2-1. But in no way, shape or form will we see AJ with us behind in a series OR if we are facing an elimination game. No way. This is the post season. You dont f*** around with your slumping pitchers if your back is against the wall.

Also, have you noticed that last yr's championship has made this a much more enjoyable post season thus far? Last yr, I couldnt breathe deeply until it was over. But these past two games have been very enjoyable

I completely agree about CC. After that, I don't know. I guess I could see them going back to Pettitte in Game 5 if they're down 3-1, but if they're up 3-1 or tied 2-2, I'd be surprised if it wasn't AJ.

Eh, not for me. Last year didn't change their goal this year. Sure, it's great that they won last year, but it's kind of irrelevant at this point.

Hughes looked good through 1. Spotting the corner and flashed a good breaking ball. Girardi better be ready to pull Phil after 6 regardless of situation. This Twins team has a lot of powerful lefties in Yankee stadium, so if we get through 6 and are winning or close, then we have to consider ourselves lucky

Wouldnt say missing them down the middle. Hughes is locating really well right now. When he is throwing it "down the middle" he is elevating it over the letter getting swings and misses or popups. His command is sharp.

The yankees will win another world series unless the Phillies have something to say about it.I just dont see Texas beating them if they meet in the ALCS.

Lee and Wilson will make it tough, although I do not fear Hunter or Lewis at all. In a 5 game set, the Rangers would be really tough to beat. But in a 7 game set, Hunter and Lewis throw at least 3 times in those 7 games, meaning we can basically avoid beating Lee and still take the series. Philly is definitely the biggest threat in the NL, but the Giants are definitely a concerning club since they boast a stout 1-2-3
