Without him' date=' the Twin's stand little chance of beating the Yankees[/quote']

You could put the Pittsburg Pirates in Yankee uniforms and let them face the Twins and they would cruise to victory. Minnesota always seems scared and pusses out come playoff time against New York. Just the facts of life. Maybe they will win one game.

Twin's are going to be without Justin Morneau the entire post season.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2010/news/story?id=5648242

Without him, the Twin's stand little chance of beating the Yankees, was hitting .345 with 18 homers and 56 RBIs when he was injured on July 7.

I'm rather surprised after 3 months he still hasn't recovered from a concussion.

haven't they had the best record in the american league since he went down in early july? this is old news and to suggest the twins have no chance without him is a bit of a stretch

No news on the Yankees' starting pitching after game one' date=' as we're now less than 48 hours away from first pitch.[/quote']

that's joe for ya. he won't disclose a thing about who's going to start until they're pitching, just like he never says who's available in the bullpen

I think we all kind of know that this means nothing. What happened in 2003 and 2004 (and even in 2009) means nothing. Even if you want to talk about this year, the Yankees went 4-2 against the Twins, but the Twins held their own, and easily could have won four or five of those games. This is the best pitching the Twins have had, and I think this series is pretty much a toss up.

Saying the Twins aren't going to win this series because of their history with the Yankees is tantamount to saying A-Rod couldn't perform in the postseason...

It's going to be really funny if the Yanks wipe the floor with the Twins, and A-Rod sucks in the postseason. :)

Haha, that would be fine by me.

Expect Joe Mauer to be walked every time he's at the plate. Delmon Young isn't Justin Morneau

Mauer was significantly better last year than he is this year, and he only walked twice in the 2009 ALDS (neither of the intentional variety).

Minnesota scored 781 this season.... the Yankees scored 859. Is that a big enough difference in offense to make up for a pitching staff that drops off significantly after Sabathia? I think that if the Twins can get to C.C. in game 1, they have a very very good chance at winning the series.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi will announce his American League Division Series rotation on Tuesday and $82 million man A.J. Burnett is out, a baseball official with knowledge of the Yankees' thinking confirmed.

Girardi plans to use CC Sabathia for Game 1 against the Minnesota Twins and on short rest in Game 4. Andy Pettitte will be scheduled for Game 2 and would pitch on regular rest because of the off days before Game 5.

Phil Hughes will start Game 3 when the series moves from Minnesota to The Bronx.

Without Morneau, the Twins have no chance of winning a single game. The games will be close and exciting. The Twins may even take a lead into the final three inning of each game, but Gardenhire and the Twins bullpen will find a way to give away each game. Don't even bother watching if you are a Sox fan. It will be like watching an old movie and hoping for the ending to change.

I agree with Girardi on the rotation. You don't f*** around with Burnett when you have CC available.

As for Morneau, obviously it's never a good thing to lose a player like him, but at the same time, the Twins were 48-26 in the second half when Morneau was out. It's not going to make anything easier and I still think the Yankees win the series, but the Twins have a shot even without Morneau.

But they never beat the Yankees... never. If Sox fans want to get anything out of this series, place a large wager on the Yankees.

The Angels never beat the Red Sox until 2009.

Look at the Twins record against the Yankees over the last 4 seasons (.266 winning %). They never beat them. It's always the same story, game after game, series after series. Somehow the Twins and Gardenhire always always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Okay, and I still think the Yankees win the series. I'm just saying that its not like Morneau was with the Twins all season and they're just now losing him. They've had the best record in the AL since he was gone. Besides, Morneau's injury allowed Thome to play everyday, and his 1.039 OPS takes away a good deal of the hit.

If the Twins want any chance of beating the Yanks, they should DL Gardenhire.

Having lefties throwing in 4 of the 5 games neutralizes Thome pretty much. At least on paper. I think the Twins success is going to be tied directly to Young and Cuddyer

In case anyone cares, here are the umpires for the series...

Jerry Crawford

Hunter Wendelstedt

Greg Gibson

Brian O'Nora

Gary Darling

Chris Guccione

OK, more roster news.

The pitchers are:

Sabathia

Pettitte

Hughes

Rivera

Wood

Chamberlain

Robertson

Logan

Burnett

Moseley

Mitre

That means no Gaudin, Nova, and Ring. Even though they're facing the lefty heavy Twins, Joe has decided against the second lefty.

As for position players, Greg Golson is on the roster. Basically Joe had to choose two out of these three - Golson, Pena, and Nunez - so now we know one of them.
