I think he's a legitimate .800 OPS hitter. He has very solid plate discipline and even this year his BABIP is only .260 and he still has a .860+ OPS.

I don't really know enough about his defense but I definitely think he's a bat that should be in the lineup at SS or 3B.

i think we have to wait and see. the largest thing holding him back is his ability to stay healthy but his wrist injury and mono could just be fluke injuries

i like his defense at shortstop and i love his on base ability

Lol!

As everyone should know by now, I like the kid. So read this post at your own peril.

First of all, the guy is smart. They don't give scholarships away at Stanford.

Next, he has Major league skills. He's average to above average defensively at short stop.

His only shortcoming is arm strength. He has an accurate arm, but he is not a cannon from the hole.

Offensively, he is a weapon that most teams would like to have. A switch hitter (a rightly) is a valuable commodity. He has gap power. That wins games. He can run. That can win games.

Play with all the advanced metrics if it makes you feel good. This kid is a player.

So much time is spent on discussing is time off the field. Not enough attention has been on his time on the field. His wrist injury should be in the past. Mono has stripped him from his core strength (now).

He's going to show what he can do in 2011.

Bank on it.

I like the guy, but I need to see him stay on the field for a consistently decent amount of time before I consider him a permanent solution to anything. The guy can hit, draw walks, play multiple positions, and field ok. I like the guy, and if he can stay on the field, then he could be a good starter. Otherwise, I see him as a long term bench player or trade bait.

The Naehring reference is obviously for the fact that he was kind of an exciting player whose career was cut way short by injuries.

A Jed Lowrie is a mythical infielder whose fragility was the stuff of legend. He has had plenty of "sightings" but no confirmed appearances on a baseball diamond

perhaps "who" is jed lowrie would have been more appropriate

If Jed keeps hitting like this and carries it into next year, it's gonna be awful, awful hard to keep him out of the lineup. He's been looking like a young John Valentin out there, and as a long time Lowrie booster I'm pretty excited.

He may well be our starting 3B next year if he can't beat Scutaro out for the shortstop job. At this point it's beginning to look like he may have the bat to make up for his percieved lack of arm.

I remember him most from playing Major League Baseball with Ken Griffey Jr. for Nintendo 64.

For me, there is no question that this team should go into 2011 with him intended as a utility player. That being said, I like the kid a lot. He hit like a monster in 2008 until his wrist injury, and two full years later, he's hitting like a monster again. The last fifteen years, there have been some extremely good shortstops, but usually SS of his caliber do not come along this often-- he's on pace for what could have been a 20+ HR season despite just coming back from two years of injuries.

If he stays healthy... I see him being everything Dojji dreams him to be.

Solid Utility man who can't play regularly without getting hurt, he's never going to be a full time player with an .800 OPS

Please tell us about all of his injuries. He played very well until the wrist was broken. Then he tailed off. He had surgery, came back and had a high ankle sprain and a lost season where he played with a wrist that was not healed. Then, wrist healed enough to allow him to play every day, he comes down with Mono. I count two injuries there. Ever had Mono?

I have. It takes months to recover. And when you told you are better (by a Doctor) you still feel weak. Lowrie lost 20 pounds. Think of what that means for someone that makes a living with his body.

Definitely living up his former big prospect status. Would be nice to see what he can do over the course of a full season.

Yes, he could reach from first, but his noodle arm doesn't provide enough velocity. I think he's nothing more than a 2b. I think it's more likely that Shitaro lands at 3b and Lowrie is at SS.

Oops, unfair request of a Yankee fan, IMO.
