man' date=' we really could have used adrian beltre, kevin youkilis, dustin pedroia, jacoby ellsbury and mike cameron in that game...[/quote']

How about Jon Lester?

Damon would've gotten a hit there.
The Yankees switched Jeter to lead off and Damon to second in the order, because Jeter had killed too many rallies in recent years with the DP. Damon rarely hits into DP's.

i'd rather have lester pitching against the rays. we didn't lose any ground tonight, if we pitched wakefield against the rays and lost we would have lost ground

What can be said?

Felix was on his game.

We could have used Beltre. Too bad he was not available. Oh wait..

Beltre's absence should not be overlooked as a cause for this loss. It was a close game and one clutch hit could have changed the outcome.

damon grounded into 9 double plays that year

Jeter had hit into 24 DP s the year before they made the switch.

i just think it's a bit disingenuous to say that damon rately grounds into double plays when he grounded into 9 last year

we gained half a game when the rays lost tonight then we lost it when we lost for a net loss of 0 games
We actually picked up a half game in the standings for the day-- 0 in the important loss column. We had gained a game in the loss column after game 1, but we lost it back with the night cap.

It's imperative that we sweep this weekend.

At this point we can't be satisfied simply "Not losing ground", we need to gain ground FAST. The problem is that the only way we make the playoffs is if the Yankees or Rays collapse. If they still play .600 ball, there is practically no way we can catch them. I just don't see those teams falling apart.

The 9 was a career high for Damon. It probably went up hitting in the second hole, but it is still a much lower rate than Jeter's rate who has been hitting into an average of more than 20 a year for the last 4 years. He's at 18 already this year. Damon's DP's have been a rare thing throughout his career compared to most players. He averages 6/yr. That's very low for a guy with as many plate appearances as he has each year. I would call it a rare occurrence. I am not making up the reason why the Yanks flip flopped Damon and Jeter. The DPs was the stated reason.

like i said' date=' we didn't lose any ground tonight[/quote']We gave back in the evening what we gained in the afternoon. We can't afford to give up any gains at this point.

again, i'm not disagreeing that jeter grounds into more double plays and that's they they were flopped

what does it matter? you're officially going to give up on the season when we don't sweep tampa this weekend anyways

Know what will be funny? If the Sox sweep the Rays. It's highly unlikely but if they do then people will have a different view on the Sox making the playoffs.
That would be great, but we can't even sweep Seattle at Fenway. I think a sweep this weekend is a long shot.

Yeah, that's why I think it's highly unlikely. Anyways I'm out for the night you guys have fun but not too much ;)

Nava has hit into 4 DPs in about 100 ABs. Damon has hit into 3 in over 400 ABs.

and there it is. i knew you were going to complain that we didn't get damon

not to burst your bubble but nava's ops is .050 points better and while he was driving in the go-ahead runs in this afternoon's game damon was busy going 0-6 in a one run loss

Posted
well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black
LOL! Dutchy, your nuts. Why would I complain about not getting Damon? They tried to get him, but Damon turned it down. I posted earlier that Damon is dead to me. Someone posted as a joke that Damon would've gotten a hit there. I decided to comment that Damon really hit into very few DPs. You challenged that statement. I produced the facts to show that my statement was factually correct. I compared Damon's DPs to Nava's since Nava's DP brought up Damon's name to start. Not complaining. Just showing the facts. Damon is dead to me. I hope he goes hitless the rest of the season and he gets benched.
