Do they seriously want to? I'm starting t get the feeling whoever gets leave for 7 years will be kicking themselves by year 5. Could be wrong though. Should be interesting. I've said for awhile I think Texas would be better off getting Grienke and putting all that money into other parts of the roster.

Finese pitchers are usually the ones you want as they get older, they are like wine. Unlike fastball pitchers like Burnett. Lee pitches with intelligence which will grow, Burnett pitches with velocity which fades.

I understand Lee is a finesse pitcher an he will probably age better the most hard throwers. But he's already shown flashes of back problems and his arm has a decent amount of miles on it. Especially considering that he's been traded to a contender the past 2 years and was abused accordingly :D

I said it at the time. The Sox missing the playoffs this year could do wonders for their rotation. I think some of the guys where burnt out from pitching in to October year in and year out. I think it adds up after awhile. I'm glad they got a break so to speak. And I'm hoping all those late season runs catch up to CC and Lee this season :D

I'm not going to lie, right now Cliff Lee is a scum bag. He's taking way to long to pick, it's really making me mad and I never get mad.

As much as I hate to say it, Sabathia is probably the most durable pitcher in baseball. He's been over-used in the playoffs the last two years, and his end with the Brewers was ridiculous, and somehow those innings have yet to catch up to him. He carries himself incredibly well, and I think he's going to actually be worth the money... Just hope he opts out and gets a huge raise.

********. He has every right to take his time to wait until he gets the best offer he can realistically get. The reason you're pissed is because of the Yankee fan "I want and i want it now" mentality.

In fact, Sabathia, whose only real suitor was the Yankees, signed on December 10, and a number of marquee player over the last few years have waited even longer to sign.

Besides, Cliff Lee said a while ago that he was going to sign during the weekend. I mean I think he'd be a jerk if he waited until the last week of the offseason to sign, but for a player of this magnitude, he wouldn't be doing himself any favour by signing immediately. The more desperate teams get = more money for him.

You can't be serious. This is a decision that will dramatically affect the next 6-7 years of his life, and you don't think he should have a few days to decide?

You sound like John McEnroe, except that you need to emphasise "cannot" in "You CANNOT be serious".

Jokes aside, very few other FA's have signed in the scheme of things, and some of the ones that have signed (Werth especially, even Crawford to an extent) signed early because they were overpaid and they knew that no team was going to beat that offer.

If the Yankees offered Lee exactly what he wanted, he would have signed with them a while ago. And since no team is blowing the others out of the water with an insane offer, it's going to take a while for Lee to determine which contract is the best for him. (This is all directed at Meh, but it expands off of your post Y228)

Haha well done.

And the thing is, with competitive offers from a couple teams, it's probably going to come down to more than just money for Lee. As you said, Werth and Crawford signed so quick because the highest offers deviated so much from the other offers on the table, so there wasn't much to think about, which isn't the case for Lee.

He's dragging it out too long, it's basically hurting how the Yankees run right now. 161 million, he's not going to get more than that. He has the Rangers offer and it's not like he hasn't had two months to think about it.

He got the actual Rangers offer (which consists of several different contractual proposals) a couple of nights ago. How'd you come up with that?

If he wanted to he can probably take another 2 months to think about it. ;)

Unfortunately this post perfectly illustrates why so many people hate the Yankees - because their fans think the world revolves around the Yankees. You're right, if it was just about years and money, than Lee would have probably accepted the Yankees' offer by now, but it clearly isn't.

Sure he has had time to think about it, but he didn't have both offers until last night. It's crazy to think that he's being a 'insert your word choices here' because he wants a couple days to think it over with his family.

Gom never really was the poster boy for patience..

Impossible.

Meh is very knowledgeable (by Yankee fan standards) about prospects from the Red Sox, Rays and Yankees (from what i've read) Gom couldn't be bothered with Yankee prospects, thought they were all trade bait, and that they were mostly useless. He couldn't make an accurate assessment about prospects even if he could copy-paste it.

Therefore, Meh =/= Gom.

Not saying it's 100%. But I was reading threw a thread he was posting in awhile back and I was half way through it before I realized it wasn't Gom's name beside the posts. It was the same style, a little less over the top. I figured it was him trying to mask himself so no one else would catch on. He doesn't let it out often, but I see flashes of Gom all over this guy. If he's not no worries :D

Yeah' date=' as far as I can recall, I never wanted to pistol-whip Meh with a 2x4. Gom made me angrier than a pervert with cerebral palsy who's trying to draw boobs on an Etch a Sketch.[/quote']

He's like Gom on ritalin or something lol Listen if he's not I'm sorry for making the claim. I was just suggesting I see similarities in their styles :D

Are you saying that you're surprised by douchebaggey claims coming from a Yankee fan that are similar to another Yankee fan? I can't believe that.

I see a lot more Gom in Divinity than in Meh, but the douchebag factor runs in their DNA, with rare exceptions like Y228.

So no, i don't think Meh is Gom.

Fair enough. Has Lee made a decision yet?

Nope, I actually went by TheHugeUnit over at DHB. He had to know teams were going to offer him insane amounts of money. I'm just saying by the time he makes his pick the Sox could end up setting their team while the Yankees have to go from Lee forward. Cashman has stated it's handcuffing his offseason plans. He just wants to be in the spotlight as long as he can, which was rumored during the winter meetings, he wanted to be the ring master during it.

Nope' date=' and I'm refreshing MLBTR very frequently lol. But, according to reports, it doesn't seem like the decision will come today.[/quote']

If he wants to make the biggest impact, he should announce it at half time on MNF LOL

Well thank you very much, although I've never posted about the Rays prospects I do follow their system as well as the Red Sox and almost every other teams system.

or the super bowl... but my god that would suck to wait that long

So?

He's the best available pitcher, and creating this "sideshow" allows him to maximize years and money (which has already happened actually since no one was willing to go to 7 years initially and look how that turned out). Please, look at it realistically. If it was you, you'd want to maximize your potential earnings as well. Baseball players are not robots that hit or pitch, they're people, and they have their ambitions and their pride.

Why should he give a s*** about the Yankees' offseason plans?

How many rings does he have? There is definitely a point where you're hurting your future team by stalling on negotiations. So far, he hasn't hurt the Yankees too much, but if he waits until mostly everyone has signed, it will hurt him in the long run.
