Why start the inning with Lackey if you have Papelbon warmed up anyway? I just don't get that. Is Lackey on Tito's Fantasy team and he wanted to get 10 points for a complete game?

you seriously putting this loss on tito >?

no he's awesome and we should sign him for 5 years at 15 mil a year
Didn't KRod get 3yrs/$36 million/

I'd like to keep Papelbon and Bard at the end of the pen for as long as possible. I'd cut ties with Papelbon when bard is no longer cost-controlled.

The great Mo blew a game this week, and KRod has had some doozies.

This was a stinker by Papelbon. No doubt about it, but I wouldn't cut him from the team based on this.

Thought Lackey had a fantastic game. So he gave a homer up off the hottest HR hitter in the game. Look past that and let Lackey finish the game. If he didn't put away the next batter or two, THEN bring in Paps.

So yea, I think it was a bad decision, especially with Paplebon's inconsistency.

But make no mistake, this loss is 100% on PAPS.

Papelbon is f***ing garbage. Overrated from the f***ing beginning. Francona is joke of a manager, regardless of his winning percentage here and winning 2 world series. A down syndrome kid with a lobotomy could of produced the same results with the teams we had. Bard should be the closer.

No, I didn't say that did I? I am just wondering why he would send him out there if the closer is already warm in the 9th. Unless the guy is hurling a shutout, he usually goes to the closer at the begining of the inning in that situation.

One day in the distant future, when war is obsolete, hunger is conquered, etc. etc. sports fans will learn the difference between "making a bonehead move" and "making a correct move that did not produce the desired result."

Way to make a noobie like me feel like an idiot. Next time you disagree with someone, maybe educate them, have a conversation with them on the forum, those kinds of things. Not everyone is as enlightened as you about Baseball.

One day in a distant future, Dojji will learn to be kind to others.

PineRider, my post wasn't directed specifically at you. In fact I wasn't even aware of your post, I was responding more to a general sentiment that overtakes places like this forum whenever a closer blows a save, and I wouldn't have said it that way if it wasn't a near-universal constant.

Heck, I'm frustrated too, but what good has blame-throwing ever done the world? He blew it, it happens, he's still a solid pitcher and the team's still a solid team. Overreacting based on one game isn't good for my heart health, and I can't recommend it for anyone else either.

Since emotions are likely to run high after something like this, we're all going to be a bit extra sensitive. I recommend we all try a little harder to be mindful of each other. Myself, obviously, included.

If we take a step back and objectively realize that the playoff hopes for this team effectively ended when Youkilis went down, this loss is not quite so painful. The Sox have never come from behind by this many games at this juncture in theseason to get into the playoffs. I'm not giving up all hope, but the odds are long. We need Tampa to go into a tailspin. They are circling the drain, but if they pull out of it, we will not catch them. We need for them to lose 7 of their next 10, and they have been playing lousy for 10 games already. They maybe ready to pull out of their slump.

And what of the Twins and White Sox?

Boy. I was eating lunch with my wife, when I decided to mow the lawn. Figured Paps was gonna shut it down in the 9th. Then, this happens? Awesome. The sox needed to be flawless without Youkilis the rest of the way to overtake the Rays, and tonight might be the nail in the coffin

The Rays have been a streaky team all year. They had that incredible start, then played .500 ball for awhile, then were hot again, and now are scuffling. It's possible that the Sox make it, but not very likely.

And the Twins and White Sox don't have teams as talented as the Yankees, Red Sox or Rays. It's highly doubtful that only one AL East team makes the playoffs, and two AL Central teams make it.
