If he's free (by that I mean he only costs the remainder of his contract), sure, take him. Otherwise, don't bother.

Why would you bother if as you said you would play Nava over Damon?

700's primary defense of Damon has been' date=' "Nava won't amount to anything". Not a strong selling point. If you need to focus on how much you think the other guy will be a bust, that kind of suggests there isn't much good to say about your guy, and with Damon as your guy, that's understandable.[/quote']Wrong. I'll be very succinct. Nava has limited skills and brings very little to the table now or ever. Damon over the next month or two would bring much more talent, ability and experience to this team. Period. You don't need to summarize my argument. There it is.

Various writers tweeting right now that Damon told Detroit media "I'm not going"

Thats correct, Damon has decided to stay in Detriot, he didn't like the way his last contract negotiation's went in Boston and disliked like being boo'd in Fenway

Damon has a gripe. He actually tried to stay in Boston, he contacted them, told them the Yankee offer and gave them a number that would have kept him in Boston and essentially, the sox FO at the time thought he was bluffing. Remember, that was the offseason of Chaos when Cherington and Hoyer were kinda running the show, but really Lucchino was. Regardless, he has said that he respects Theo, Henry and Tito. He obviously doesnt like Lucchino and that relationship is costing the sox Damon

damon can be upset all he wants. he wasn't worth the money he made in new york and he certainly wasn't worth more money than what new york offered. not to mention, his eventually replacement was a large reason why we won the world series in 2007

He wasnt worth the money in NY? Sounds revisionist to me. He had a hell of a career in NY.

His average season in NY over 4 yrs...

144G 557AB 103R 159H 31-2B 4-3B 19HR 74RBI 67BB 86K 23SB .285AVG .362OBP .458SLG .820OPS.

Those are pretty solid numbers, especially when you consider that he routinely saw 4.06-4.31 pitches per plate appearance. He was a hell of a leadoff/#2 hitter and was well worth his money

the war values show that he was worth less than $13 million a year and those values tend to be bloated to begin with

For NYY, in that lineup, he brought a lot more than WAR could quantify. Thing about Damon, was that he was an abysmal left fielder last yr, and I would assume his defense is the part of the WAR that kills him. Offensively, what he brought at the top of the order was damn near priceless

the red sox clearly made the right move. coco crisp and jacoby ellsbury were worth $59.9 million worth according to war value from 2006-2009 and were paid less than $14 million total over that time. damon was worth $53 million according to war value from 2006-2009 and was paid $52 million

They were willing to pay 5/70 for Drew' date=' but balked on 4/48 on Damon. They f***ed up, plain and simple.[/quote']

drew is a better player than damon. plain and simple

If you think Johnny Damon is not coming..you are more of a dullard than Damon or FagsonianCrotch. He is absolutely coming. Dombrowski even sat down and told him they have no plans for him. Johnny stays..he rides pine in September and doesn't do s*** for his stock going into free agency. Detroit tried to convince him to go to Boston by trying and explaining to this nitwit that the Rays didn't claim him and the Red Sox want him to play! The Tigers love Damon so much that they are willing to GIVE him away for a measley 1.8 mill.. C'mon son..he ain't that dumb.

Damon is hurt..he feels jaded and is probably dragging this out so Theo gives him some sort of apology...but he, like every other athlete is all about the Benjamins.. He is MORE pissed at the Yankees..and publicly dissed them recently. If he is all about the Benjamins--and we know he is.. he is coming to Boston. I guarantee you Boras is imploring him to go. He is coming and he will be a welcome addition to the top of the lineup.

Yes, he's a better player WHEN HE PLAYS. But Drew has more "injuries" in any given month than Damon has had in his career. One has averages 150 games a year, the other averages 120. That is simple fact. When you factor in replacement players like Hermida, Baldelli, Mcdonald playing at Drew's position, it shows why Damon is the better player.

damon averaged 144 games a year from 2006-2009, drew has averaged 133. stats like war take that into account and they still favor drew

I hope this is true .

i think he comes here if Detroit loses tonight , just cause he thinks Detroit still has a chance

So when Johnny Damon told Jason Beck of MLB.com that he is not going back to the Red Sox you're suggesting he was lying?

Also implying Damon is mad at the Yankees is incorrect, he said he had no hard feelings when the Yankees didn't re-sign him, he's said several positive things about them since then though I can't find any direct quotes at the moment, and even tipped his helmet at Yankees stadium last week

What choice does Damon have if he's released? He could not show up, but that will hurt his next contract if he adds "prima-donna" to his already fading resume. Detroit has him by the balls here. He refuses a trade to Boston, and they don't have to recall him from waivers, making him go to Boston anyway so they can save some coin.

He also seems conscious about burning bridges. He made his little speech, so he can look everyone in the face and say he didn't want to leave.
