Should Theo kick the tires on King Felix again?

I would think a package of Matsuzaka (Japanese appeal for Nintendo owners) + 3 or 4 of (Iglesias/Kalish/Kelly/Anderson/Bowden/Pimentel) the Sox's top prospects might be enough to land the Big fish and Aardsma--who is unscored upon in last 10 outings..has barely given up any hits... A rotation of Lester/Hernandez/Beckett/Lackey/Buchholz would be insane and with no IMPACT bat available at the deadline this may be the best option. I am sure we would throw some cash in the deal as well.

 

I would be all for something like this.. Theo inquired last year..why not inquire again?

That seems like overkill. In the playoffs who do you take out of that rotation and move to the bullpen? Matsuzaka is pitching well and signed to a very manageable contract while Felix is getting paid 160+mil after next year. Plus talk about unloading a three players at double-A and above that have a very realistic chance of being impact players in the near future.

 

This was a move that made sense last year but with the emergence of Buchholz and the signing of Lackey, it doesn't make much sense anymore.

We need replacement for Cameron, Drew, Ortiz, Martinez, Beltre. Scutaro next year and beyond.

 

Keeping Kalish, Iglesias address at least two of those needs.

If it's for more than just this year then go for it. Any move that makes next year's team significantly better should be contemplated this deadline.

There is no way we get Felix - an ace pitcher, who is very young, throws really hard, and is signed to a club friendly deal - unless we basically packaged our top 10 prospects and shipped them off.

Matsuzaka doesn't have ace ability. Only Kelly has ace potential out of our pitching prospects (actually I'm not sure about Pimentel but I don't think I've heard "ace ceiling"). King Felix trade talks won't be possible until he has a short amount of time left on his contract, an extension isn't getting done, AND the Mariners are not competing; or Theo does something very, very, very stupid.

The rotation is fine, it would be better with Felix but IMO it's still top 3 in the MLB.
