Ken Rosenthal with a not-so surprising update that the Yankees would love to have Adam Dunn or Joakim Soria. I dont see the Yankees matching up for Dunn, mostly cause he is under control through this yr only and the Yanks dont have the biggest need for a bat with no position (like Jesus Montero). But Soria, I could see the Yanks making a run at him. And the biggest trade chip they could us would be Chamberlain. Joba goes to KC and gets his career back on track probably in the rotation and Soria sets up for Mo as the potential successor as well.

Soria for Joba actually makes a great deal of sense for both sides. Interesting thought Jacko. I just wonder if KC would be tempted to hang onto Soria, who is signed through 2014 with a very affordable contract.

sounds like a pip dream. i don't see why the royals would trade away one of their cost controlled young stars

Because they're a team that isn't going anywhere right now, and if they believe they can turn Joba back into a starter, it might very well be worth it.

That's my thought. Soria is a closer only. Joba, if rectified to being more than just a scared kid on the mound, could become a top notch starter or closer. Hell, he was a scared kid on the mound last yr and was pretty average in his first yr. You'd think one would get better, not worse

The Yankees are in the mix for Dan Haren. Haren is having a rough yr in terms of his BAA, but his K and BB rates are ridiculous and his endurance has been very good through his career

Haren might be a necessary acquisition for the Yankees if they want to win the World Series. Sure, the rotation was excellent in the first half, but they're really struggling, and I'm not too confident in anyone besides CC to turn it around.

I agree, Joba for Soria makes sense. With Soria's friendly contract, it may take another piece possibly.

Expect AZ to ask for Hughes in any deal. Joba has lost too much of his shine to be the main pitching part of any package IMO.

As far as I'm concerned, I want no part of Haren in a Yankee uniform. If he's struggling in the NL West for the non-contending Diamondbacks, how can we expect him to succeed in the AL East? I don't think it's worth it to give up what they would want in return for such a questionable pitcher.

i agree, it would probably take hughes. i don't think many teams see chamberlain as a starter and if they're going to trade away a quality starter like haren, they going to want something more than an experiment to try out in the rotation

haren would be a good fit for the yankees. he's had some bad luck on balls put in play but all his other numbers are solid and he's pitching in a pretty tough pitcher's park. they don't really have anything in the way of a #2 starter right now with pettitte on the dl and burnett and hughes struggling

Article says D-Backs want A+ package and then mention Nova? That seems unlikely

Agreed, I highly doubt a package headlined by Ivan Nova would get it done.

One source says Nova, another says Joba. Together, they would probably get him, but I'd be concerned if he's going to be worth 12 million a year till 2012 if he pitches like he has so far.

Like he has thus far? Haren has been incredibly unlucky this yr. He's shown great K ability, a great BB rate and incredible endurance. He's a horse in every sense of the word and would be a hell of a pickup

Yes, like he has thus far. 4.60 ERA in the NL West is nothing spectacular and shows that he's been struggling. I understand he's been an exceptional pitcher in the past, but if the diamondbacks are willing to trade him, why wouldn't they wait till he gets higher value?

LOL Why do the Yankees value Joba so much? Exactly what does he bring to the table these days? He was a s***** starter last year, and now he's a s***** setup man. I say trade him while you can...

This is a negotiation. There are 7 days left in the negotiation before the end of it. We'll see Mitre twice in that time. Cashman might change his mind by then.

Also, shocked the Yankees want the DBacks to pick up some money here.

Why do I get the feeling that there is a guy working for the Yankees that is desperate enough for attention that he likes to tell people that these deals are going through when they're not close?
