BTW, the Wood deal is fine with me. Get a guy with lightning stuff for $1.7 million? If he sucks, then we didnt give up anything, if he doesnt, then we get a closer level arm for free essentially.

When he sucks, you'll start losing games more.

Wood is a clear upgrade from Chan Ho Park' date=' who they DFA'd to make room for him.[/quote']

It's a very little uprgrade from Park

as an 8th inning guy?

Not a chance. Based on what he's done so far this year, there's no doubt in my mind that Wood is going to pitch in low leverage situations until he begins to succeed (if that ever happens).

I agree y228. Wood and Joba are gonna start out on the same level. Middle inning guys trying to work their ways into a setup role. The best one will slide into the 7th inning role with Robertson clinging to the 8th inning role for dear life.

Also, Aceves is throwing more and should go out on a rehab assignment soon. What was a pretty significant weakness may turn into a strength in the coming weeks

how is a pitcher with a 6.30 era and a 1.60 whip a clear upgrade from a pitcher with a 5.60 era and a 1.47 whip? that looks like the opposite of an upgrade to me

Its not a vast improvement but I still think its a positive move. Chan Ho Park is 37 now, I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank, while Kerry Wood is 33. Also injuries have held Wood back this season so I wouldn't soley compare the numbers alone. If it was a downgrade like you're suggesting, do you think the Yankees would've bothered wasting there time making a trade?

A strength? No. Adequate? Maybe.

i think the yankees were desperate to improve their pen but they didn't want to give up good prospects so they took a flier on a low risk/high reward guy
