that's impressive that the yankees somehow stockpiled 50 or so prospects worth keeping an eye on in short league. i'm surprised sports illustrated hasn't done a story yet

Since we're talking about Yankee prospects, I personally saw Mike Recchia pitch a number of times on my brother's team at Eastern Illinois. He inexplicably went undrafted (I think it was because he didn't play in a prestigious summer league). The Yankees wisely picked him up and have him in Class A-Short Season.

He was a starter in college but so far has been used as a reliever, which is probably the way to go, as he doesn't have a ton of stamina. But he throws a heavy ball and can hit 92-94 on the gun. Big, husky guy. Huge hands. Could probably develop a devastating splitter with those mitts. I think he was a steal for you guys. Reminds me of Joe Borowski.

of the 30+ prospects you mentioned in short season for the yankees' date=' how many do you actually think are actually top prospects?[/quote']

The cream of the crop?

Calderon, Sanchez, Cabrera, Culver, DeLeon and Mitchell will be the top 6. They will be cracking Yankee top 10s in the next few yrs, with Sanchez already there. All I am saying is that the talent level in short season is incredible. Over the last 3 drafts and IFAs, the Yankees have taken a ton of HS talent as well as 16-18 yr old Dominican/Venezuelan/Mexican talent and the Yankees are taking it slow with all of them

it's a long way from short league to the majors. chances are, of the 30+ guys you mentioned, perhaps 5 will make the majors and one or two will be productive players there
