A retractable roof adds about 150-200 million. Also, Yankee Stadium definitely seems to cram in a lot of wealth, but I have to think the real estate was a massive cost too. As it would be for Boston.

The sox would make a f***ing killing if they did what the Patriots did. Create an entire plaza with enough parking for the masses in a suburb of Boston. They would need support from the MBTA to create a line that went out there as well. But it would be a f***ing gold mine for them.

Hmmm that's a little more then I thought I read it was. But still it should be done. Maybe the league should have a fund that every team pays a small percentage of their revenue into each year and when a new park goes up MLB can help with the bill. It's just a thought.

And I ABSOLUTELY agree with your statement about if they do build a new stadium they should follow the Patriots model. That place is an absolute cash cow.

I've said this before, but my ideal scenario for Fenway Park is a kind of semi-retirement. It might be impractical, but I'd like to see a few "Fenway Games" a year, at least for the first couple years after any new ballpark opens.

I don't think anything happens before 2012 anyway though.

Nah, model the park to replicate "Old Fenway", add in some new bells and whistles and move on. No point in lingering around.

But I will say the "Old Fenway" should be open to holding College games, maybe High School Tournaments and championship games. That would be the way to keep the atmosphere alive there.

the Patriots' Day Game, at least, should be a Fenway game.

I could just see a handful of Fenway nuts, if Boston really decided to move out to the burbs, trying to find enough funding and backing to get an NL expansion team to play in Fenway. I don't know if they'd have a chance, but you know someone would try it.

I have heard crazier ideas. Give some team for the pink hats to flock to.

no thanks. to compare it to camping i'd rather be in a secluded area of the woods in a tent than sit in a crouded RV park with a few trees because it's more comfortable. this is baseball, it's not meant to be as comfortable as possible. i'd rather sit in an old wooden seat and eat hot dogs and beer in the same stadium that guys like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Ted Williams played in that sit in a bigger, plastic seat, eat at a steak house and watch the game on a tv screen from my obstructed view seat.

if you want to be comfortable, watch at home.

Fortunately, the Red Sox don't think like the Yankees. We'll keep Fenway, thank you very much, and you can enjoy the House that Greed Built, and we'll both be happy.

If they decide to build it, they have to do it in an area close to the current one to at least keep some of the nostalgia.

Some areas to consider:

The area across from lechmere square in Charlestown. Its right off 93.

The athletic fields across from the bayside expo center. There is a huge amount of property right on the old harbor that might look nice for a future Fenway. I think there is enough islands/barrier islands in the way to make it not another "mistake by the lake".

It would never happen, but what about putting it where the Gardens are across the street on boylston street? Swap properties, the Fenway property is smaller, but cut them a huge check to build the gardens and make them state of the art. I am sure a huge check would convivce them to swap properties as most of the people who work at the gardens are students/volunteers. This would keep the ballpark in almost the same exact place....the back bay fens.

If they are planning to build in the near future, the time would be now. Due to the economy, the construction industry is down right now, so it's the right time to take advantage of a competitive bidding market for projects.

Seems to me that in this thread people are comparing what the yankees have against the Red Soxs.I mean seriously we all know a new park would be nice i just don't feel it's necessary. If the yankees have a nice stadium then we have to have a nice stadium as well.It doesn't work that way.I honestly think this argument is over. We'll keep Fenway the way it is.

Mostly the only one doing that (comparing to NYY) is Jacko. I've thought we needed a new stadium for years. Fenway isn't going to last forever and trying will just hurt the franchise. Carry Fenway into Y2012 and the centennial, and then rock her gently to sleep and move to new digs.

I'll never understand how a true baseball fan could experience a game at Fenway Park and ever wish for a new stadium.

Fenway is beauty. History. Tradition. Pride.

Fenway is the game of baseball.

These are the only things we could ever hope to experience and/or feel when attending a ballgame.

If you want comfort; cup holders; room for your 270 pound or 6'6" body; amenities; chic restaurants; or unfettered sightlines, for God's sakes, watch the game from your La-Z-Boy in the basement.

Fenway has been, is, and always will be the place where fans can be fans. If you can't see that, I seriously don't have any idea what the hell to tell you.

I was just at citizens bank the other day and it felt soulless. Wide aisles, room to maneuver, big seats and no heart.

THIS. I've been to games in Philly as well and thought it had more of a "fair" atmosphere than a ball game. There were just too many distractions for people. Camden Yards is a beautiful stadium and when the Red Sox fans take over, it feels more like an intense game, but still doesn't come close to the atmosphere at Fenway. It's all about the spotlight and size.

A friend emailed me an article about the 10 best baseball parks. Wrigley was #1 and Fenway was #2. Yankee Stadium was #8.

I'd probably enjoy Fenway more if it was a place I could walk out of without limping. It's just not built for 6'6" people.

Lol.

I don't understand the thinking that goes into "Fenway is baseball".

It's an antiquated, crumbling , outmoded dump. Plain and simple. The Sox owners have said that they have invested in refrubishment to allow play there through the 2020's.

So don't hold your breath for a new stadium. And when the time does come when there is impetus for a new venue, expect the usual Boston political ******** to get in the way. Too bad, really. Boston is a world class city in many ways.

I go to Fenway around 10 times a year and Yankee Stadium maybe about 3. I have been to both twice this month actually, and I will take Fenway over Yankee Stadium every time. There's too much ******** in Yankee Stadium, it's ridiculous. It's like people have been saying, it's really nice and everything, but seriously, if you want to go to a real nice restaurant and sit in a leatherbound chair, then watch at home. Fenway is about atmosphere, history, all of that.
