i thought the Marlins were considering moving him to the OF, weren't there trade rumors this winter of us getting him and moving him to OF? Regardless, we need a 2nd baseman, and he is one

We can't trade dice k he has the no trade clause we should try to go after Lee and trade some minors Ans maybe go after a bat in the outfield and prepare for the sox to get Crawford and sign Lee and some other's

You dont NEED Lee. Most teams going into the playoffs need one ace (Lester), 2 good starters (Buchholz and Lackey) and one guy who could be solid but is somewhat of a wild card (Beckett). Lee would make the post-season much more enjoyable for the sox, but I dont think he would help the sox all that much getting into the post season. Especially with VMart and Pedroia out for a TBD time and Ellsbury off somewhere. The offense has to crumble eventually. Daniel Nava, Bill Hall, Darnell McDonald and the rest cannot continue to do what they are doing. And when it does, the sox are gonna wish they addressed it. Hence why I think DeJesus would be such a good addition. He isnt overly flashy, but plays the game the right way and would fit into the dirtdog mentality pretty well

i think i'd just add a bullpen arm at this point unless beckett and ellsbury still aren't ready by the trade deadline. there's no reason to believe that the offense isn't going to continue to be one of the best in baseball if not the best this year considering we've been the best offense so far even though we've been running out multiple bench players most games. and between beckett and lackey, you figure we'll get a servicable number three starter
Posted
Ortiz, Youk, Beltre, Drew, Scutaro and Cameron still make a solid roster. If Varitek and Nava continue to have good seasons, it won't matter that much. In the end, if the starters do what they're supposed to and Buchholz only misses one or two starts, they can survive a rough patch.

I think they'll still hit' date=' but are they gonna continue their league leading OPS without 2 of their best hitters? I find that hard to believe[/quote']

Do they need to lead the league in OPS? Is that necessary? I don't think it is. I think they need to keep winning 3 games out of 5 and although those are big hits to their lineup, they are still in decent shape.

it's not like martinez, pedroia and ellsbury are going to be out for the entire year. and it's not like you need to score the most runs in baseball to be a competitive team. we're going to be getting beckett back soon as well, that will make a huge difference

The sky is blue, there is good in the world.

The Sox will still score runs, and they just need to hold the fort until the walking wounded return. The season will not end.

i have to say, this umpire's done a hell of a job calling balls and strikes. there were a couple of borderline calls which many umpires just give to the pitcher even though they're balls but this umpire's called a pretty textbook strike zone

I honestly don't see Dice-K on any other team.I know he has been slacking lately but its not a reason for him to be traded.Same with Jonathan Papelbon.I've been hearing a lot of people bash him because of the two blown saves in a row.We all seen what he can do and he is one hell of a closer.Just give Dice-k a break.

Theo was talking at NESN today. He was saying that the team probably isn't going to make a big move because just about everyone is going to be healthy by the trade deadline, so it doesn't make a ton of sense for them to get impact players that will be on the bench by the end of the month. Instead, they'll just be going for depth. The bullpen needs help, but that's about it.

I'd love to see this team acquire a pitcher who can handle pitching the 8th inning of games.

I'm not sure who is available for trade but I think it would be a huge addition. Bard is getting used way too much right now. I believe he leads the league in appearances. I don't want to see this kid being burnt out.

One guy who I would to see in a Sox uniform would be Matt Thornton. No idea if Chicago would want to move him though.

id like to see AAA pitcher Coello get a chance. He's another independent leaguer who's been excellent at every step in the minors and has 21 Ks in 16 IP thus far in AAA.

I'd like to see a starter pitch the 8th inning for a change. Tonite, Lackey cruising with big lead after 7 innings, 108 pitches. Why not pitch the 8th? Nope, let's wear out Oki. Natch, TB gets a couple runs off Oki.

The pitching paradigm doesn't make much sense anymore: let's use the BP when we don't need them, so we won't have them when we need them.

Lester pitched a complete game two days ago.

I'm going back to trade suggestions.

What value would David DeJesus have? How would he fit on this team?

He's hitting .332/.388/.481/.869 this season, and has a reasonable $6 million club option (per-Cot's) for 2011. With the injuries to Hermida and Ellsbury is there enough room for him? Who would go?

I think there's some real value in having DeJesus moving forward, if the price is right. I could see the Sox putting together a package of enough 2nd tier prospects to get the job done, I'm just not sure if the need is urgent enough.

They don't have any other lefties, and Thornton is nails, so I'm guessing it's not going to happen. But Kenny Williams likes to make moves. The Sox could probably get Putz or Santos. Maybe even Jenks.

Thornton maybe. Jenks defiantly while his value is high. I would think we'd keep Putz if they believe we're still in the mix. No way they move Santos IMO.

Coello's worth a look. I wouldn't exactly dub him a closer of the future but as a MR, any pitcher who's effective in AAA is in the mix by default and I like Coello's numbers.

I would like to see them add DeJesus. But from what I have read KC wants a lot in return for him.

I like dejesus but hes cheap money and kc will want MLB game ready arms for him. JD Drew continues to fascinate me with a newly discovered ailment once a week..It aint funny anymore, this **** is as reliable as a brokecoke addict.

I havent been here in ages so I was interested in seeing how deep the manlove is for some of my older friends on board.

I think hes a f***ing parasite,a jonah and i know he sits when peeing.

Y/ALL HAVE A BLESSED 4TH and take care.

Our pitching will keep us competetive and hopefully this band of nonames can keep banging out decent offense...

I think if we want Dejesus, we're looking at Doubront the other way at this point. If I was in the Royals' shoes that's the price I'd ask for since it would be the right combination of iimmediate potential impact to a small market team, future value, and availability.

If Theo says no, I look for Bowden and something A-ballish where you can get some upside because guys are far away from the show.

This would be a good year to "overpay" for a closer to a team that needs a lot of young talent. I'd try to swing DeJesus and Joakim Soria. I realize KC wouldn't go out of their way to move him, but at the same time a closer is a closer and teams that don't win aren't going to get over the hump with only an elite closer.

Likewise, Theo could be unusually aggressive to get a guy like Soria. He's owed roughly $27m for the next 4 years (multiple potential club options), so he would be under the team's control for awhile. He's only 26 and his FB is harder this year than it has been previously. Also, his K/9 is over 11.

Moving two good pitching prospects and a good young hitter for him should not be out of the question IMO. This team has built depth and has a SP staff that is relatively stable for the next few years. Soria is a guy who immediately becomes the team's setup man and potential closer of the future, and if not he would probably be a solid BP arm for the next 4 years (next Okajima). If this team has Papelbon, Soria and Bard in the pen they are set for the near future (until Papelbon's contract ends), and they are going to need an elite pen to fully realize the pitching staff they have built.

How high would others go for Soria? Casey Kelly high?

Somebody needs to get in Drew's face, Longoria-style, and tell him to get his lazy ass on the field. This is exactly the time he should be stepping up and trying to carry this team on his back. Instead, we have a 5'7" secondbaseman with a broken foot fielding groundballs from his knees!

If we know one thing about Theo, we know he's going to go get some BP help. Sometimes it works out (Williamson), sometimes it doesn't (Gagne, Wagner).
