The guy is a horse. He just hit 3,000 innings pitched for the sox and now has the most innings pitched for the team out of any player in history. Moyer and Pettite are the only other 2 pitchers active with 3,000 starts.

He has his (bad) moments but all around I love the guy. It'll be a sad day when he finally hangs them up (in 2017....)

I've always loved the guy. Even when he gets pounded, you know he's doing the best that he can.

All the talk about releasing him, both before the season started, and since, is just nonsense. Two starters are on the DL. s*** happens. I'm glad Wake is healthy and on this team.

Wake is fine for a sixth starter. I don't think he's suited to start a season as a #3/4/5 ever again, but he's great in a pinch for spot starts and long relief and he can sure eat innings.

This is exactly what makes him so valuable. Problem with the pitching staff? Wake is there to patch it up. He's been doing it for years and I think fans tend to under value the guy.

Plus' date=' he has the Sox offense backing him up, which makes him more valuable here than in say, San Diego.[/quote']

Well, over the years it seems like he's had incredibly bad run support, although that's because he had personal catchers who couldn't hit.

 fair enough. That's actually something that I'd never really given a lot of thought - the impact of the personal catcher on run support.

Wake has always been a great Sox. He may not win 20 games or K 250 every season, but damn, he sure is reliable. When he's on, he's unhittable, when he's not, he's terrible, but I wouldn't trade him for any scrub starter in Major League Baseball. The hometown discount he takes every season doesn't hurt my love for him, either. When my grandkids ask me about baseball in my day, Ill speak fondly of him...right before I switch on the floating 3D holovision and watch him pitch that night.

One thing sure, this isn't the worst he's ever looked and still rebounded to have a decent year.

Wakefield I keep around because anyone else you could use to do his job is likely to be just as bad and Wakes works cheap. There's a comfort factor there and you have a fair idea what you're going to get. The fact that you're probably going to need a swingman over the course of a given season doesn't hurt either.
