This would be massive money. We're talking $5-$6 million

The article mentions a figure of around 2mil. Slot recommendation for the first overall pick is only 4mil.

If he is throwing like he did prior to this season' date=' then he deserves it. He was ranked as the #2 guy in the draft behind Harper prior to his season, then he had his arm trouble. Word is, he is throwing really well this summer.[/quote']

threw 6 innings of no-hit ball thursday night.

so far in cape cod:

4 starts, 23.2 ip, 22 k, 7 bb, 7 h, 0.00 ERA, .089 baa (had to do the baa math myself, so might be wrong)

My guess is that he re-enters the draft, IMO. There isnt a guy like Strasburg or Harper in the works for next yr and a guy with his size and stuff could command $5-6 mil or more as a top 1 or 2 pick. I doubt the sox bend to Boras' wishes. Although, next yrs draft class is supposed to be pretty solid, but they lack that marquee name at the top

Fixed that for ya

Exactly. I think the sox knew they would sign Brentz and Vitek while being able to negotiate with Workman and Ranaudo. If those guys want too much, the sox can forgo the pick and get a supp and a 2nd rounder next yr to offset any major signings they make in the off season. Not a bad strategy when the following yrs draft is expected to be special

I see the Sox signing one of them (Workman/Ranaudo) and one of Cecchini and Coyle. I think the Sox drafted both pairs as insurance in the event that one of them doesn't sign, since all of them are high ceiling prospects with high bonus demands.

i would LOVE for Ranaudo to come bacl to LSU next year.

him and Ross were our top 2 starters last year. I'm pretty sure i read somewhere that Ross already signed.

2 guys that were supposed to compete for weekend starting jobs will be having Tommy John surgery, so they're out for next season.

Ranaudo coming back would be HUGE!

Hoping for Workman and Coyle so Ranaudo and Cecchini can be in Baton Rouge.

I think only you and Yankee fans share that view on this site.

didn't expect that view to be popular.

while I would love to see Ranaudo in Boston, LSU was my 1st love in multiple sports.

living less than 2 hours from campus, I started going to games at an early age.

and now I'm enjoying bringing my 2 sons to games as well.

hoping one day to make a trip out to Fenway (my kids are already asking to go).

ranaudo has an era of 0 in 29 and 2/3 innings in the cape cod league. if he's healthy, he's arguably the most talented pitching prospect in the 2010 draft class. i don't have any problem paying him accordingly
Posted

yeah, it's extremely rare that a winning team gets a shot at a pitcher with this kind of talent in the draft. here's his entire stat line from the cape cod league

29.2 ip, 0.00 era, 0.61 whip, 10 h, 8 bb, 21 so, .101 baa

Posted
he's facing college players his age. it's not just 29 innings of cape cod league that justify paying him big money though. he was projected as the best pitching prospect in the draft before he got hurt, the sox got a steal by getting him as low as they did
Posted
Plus' date=' if we don't sign him, I don't think there's a chance in hell that we'd have a shot at getting him again in the following draft.[/quote']

No, you wouldnt. Ranaudo was considered the #2 player in the draft behind Harper until his arm/pectoral injury sprung up. If healthy, he has a chance to go #1 overall next yr, and with him showcasing in the cape like this, he's gonna be in the mix. Boras is gonna request a TON of cash to sign him

sorry, didnt see this post when I made my post. This is 100% correct

sounds like we both agree on his ability. do you think he's worth top 10 draft pick money?

Posted
Yes, I do. He has Brackman's ability (high 90s FB, wipeout curve) without the specter of Tommy John looming over him. And Brackman signed for top pick money. I expect Boras to ask for more than the Yanks gave Brackman

last week, a local reporter down here tweeted that Ranuado was coming back to LSU.

claims she has reliable sources.

a good friend of mine who always seems to hear the good rumors first said the same as well.

I still find this difficult to believe, and think he is gonna sign.

Nutri, he just put up a ridiculously dominant line in the CC league. He pitched 29 innings and didnt allow a run against the best draft talent in the game. This actually is bad news for the sox. He showed he was healthy, which is good. He also showed he is a top talent, which makes it very hard to sign him. Boras knows what he is doing.

Unfortunately, Boras is using his college education as a bargaining chip. I would not be surprised if its 5+, but 10 might be pushing it.

$10 million is silly. david price only got an $8.5 million contract and he had better stuff, actually was the top draft pick and wasn't coming back from injury
