another win from the banged up red sox. we're now half a game back of the best record in baseball. is it reasonable to think that when we get healthier in the second half that we'll be the best team in baseball?

Yeah, just like Lowell always has a horrible 2nd half. Be real, you don't have any idea how well the Yankees will play in the 2nd half compared to their 1st half.

I wish, but somehow it never seems to work that way.

They will have a higher win % in the second half. Book it

I already have. On every possible issue, in every possible scenario, I have you down for predicting good things for the Yankees. You're covered.

the yankees have done better in the second half the past few years largely because they got off to horrible starts in april. that wasn't the case this year

For the same reason you shouldn't think there's a higher probability of tails on the next coin flip when the last 10 were heads. What happened on previous tosses doesn't impact the next one, and what happened in previous seasons doesn't impact this one.

i'm with you ors. if we've conceding that the yankees will have a great second half in july, then why not just concede that they'll win the world series again? just because something happened last year has nothing to do with this year

Of course you dont believe it because it negatively impacts your team. As usual, here are some numbers to prove my point that you will undoubtedly refute with some non-sense as usual.

2009-

July 1- .584. After July 1 .682

2008-

July 1- .524. After July 1 .577

2007-

July 1- .481. After July 1 .675

2006-

July 1- .577. After July 1 .619

2005-

July 1- .500. After July 1 .667

The last yr the Yankees were better in the first 3 months than the last was 2004, when they posted a .658 win % prior to July 1, then finished with a .593.

Regardless, this team has proven over recent yrs that they are a second half team. THey will continue to do so.

malarkey. they've also "proven" over the last few years that they play poorly in april.

2009 - .565 in April

2008 - .467 in April

2007 - .417 in April

2006 - .542 in April

2005 - .400 in April

this year they had a .652 wpct in april because believe it or not, just because something happened last year doesn't mean it will happen this year

Maybe. But none of that means they will this year. Hell, think about like you would a .300 hitter. If a guy normally hits about .300, with some years being good early / bad late and vice versa, what would you think about his second half if he was hitting .320?

The Yankees are usually about a .600 win team. You see where this is going.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with impact to my team. Given their start and their injuries, it will be remarkable if they make the playoffs. I just enjoy poking a stick in your side every time you pull your s*** here.

It's a trend to follow' date=' something I think will happen. Tex and ARod are starting to show some signs of life, once they go off, this team is gonna rocket[/quote']

The last part is something that many people have been saying for awhile. It might happen, but I'm not buying that they're about to break out.

both teixeira and a-rod have taken a step back over the last month

Huh? 4HR in last 15 games and he's hitting .444 this month. ARod is the one who has been having trouble since May ended

I would say Tex seems to be finding it recently. He seems to be heating up. While Arod has looked feeble at the dish as of late.

When ARod gets out of sorts, he looks like this. His timing is all out of whack. Once he gets it back, he'll break out with one of those 6 homers in 7 games runs.

Lester, Lackey and DiceK close out the first half in Toronto against Romero, Morrow and TBD. The sox get Price tomorrow with Wake pitching in the Trop. Right now, the sox are 4 games back of the Yanks in the L column and 2 games back of the Rays. There is a very real possibility that with their injuries, the sox could be 4 games back of a playoff berth going into the ASB and they'll need to get healthy quick.

i said the last month, not the sss that you're using. on june 4th he was hitting .297/.376/.492 and people said he was breaking out then he went right back to slumping and he now is at .272/.344/.479 going into tonight's action

Posted
color me not worried. even if the sox do fall to 4 games back, that's nothing to make up over half a season especially for a team of the quality that we will be when we're healthy

I think the magic is running out. We will get swept by Tampa. The Blue Jays are no push overs with their power. You can't expect the scrubs to keep up the pace forever. Just get us to the ASB

Tonight, on the way to the fridge to get a beer I kicked the leg of the coach and broke my toe. I rolled around on the floor a while cursing my bad luck, and then, I remembered I'm a Red Sox fan.

So you wouldnt be happy if your team was doing well? I see, it's only because I am a Yankee fan. Exactly. Does it bother you that I am here?
