You do have to admit Dipre that Beltre has been oddly unsound at times on defense.

I really don't know what he was thinking when he tried to get the force out at 2nd when the guy was running on the pitch. Not smart.

Yep .

His baseball instincts seem off at times. Or he loves to make the highlight reel, flashy plays that Scott Boras probably has on DVD, but Beltre will oddly flub some routine ones. Just bizarre...

This article in the NYTimes is very annoying. The author makes it seem that except for the Sox recent run from 2004 to present that us old time Red Sox fans were used to losing teams that played less than .500 ball. He says that playing under .500 is not so bad. It's not so bad to stink. He says that 85 wins would have been nirvana to him and old time Sox fans. This guy is off his rocker. After 1967, the year that gave birth to what we call Red Sox Nation and changed the trajectory of the franchise, they have finished under .500 only 6 times in 43 years. Three of those years were consecutive under the drug addict retarded Butch Hobson, and one of those was the strike year of 1994. After 1967, they did not finish under .500 until 1983 (ironically Yaz's last season). The other two years under .500 were 1987 and 1997. So, unless we hire Butch Hobson again, we old time Red Sox fans are used to stinking (i.e., playing less than .500) less than 1 time every 10 years. So, Mr. David Margolick please be advised that us old time Red Sox fans are not used to our team stinking, but you probably think old-time means the early 1990's. Oh boy, what historical perspective!

Btw' date=' Y228, since you're looking at the thread, do you have any sort of defense for the Captain of the Ball-gargling Douchebag squad?[/quote']

Didn't notice this earlier. Not that I'm the authority on things like this, but obviously what Jacko said was unnecessary, and I think he would tell you as much.

It's about stupid decisions. A lot of the miscues he's made have happened on balls Lowell wouldn't even touch. I agree he needs to focus though, he's making a lot of stupid decisions.

Really? Stupid decisions? He's been the beneficiary of 3 calls in Boston that every other team's scorer calls an error. Dipre, he is throwing wildly, his hands are not as good as advertised and he makes boneheaded decisions. He's got the tools to turn it around, but he has absolutely 1000% sucked in the field, and defending his current defensive performance just makes you look bad

Not very smart there, doctor.

What i mean by stupid decisions are errors that occur because of, well"boneheaded" decisions as you call them yourself (ironic). If you read the post without trying to incite s*** (good luck with that) you'll notice that i'm trying to put a finger on the reason for Beltre's struggles, not trying to defend them. Stupid decisions encompass poor positioning, rushed throws and errant throws due to messed up footwork. He's getting to balls, then doing the worst possible thing afterward.

A) Stop putting words in my mouth.

B ) Read before you type.

If you follow those references, you may do something to stop "looking bad" on a post-to-post basis.

Totally right. If someone else was out there playing this bad he would be calling him like we are. But since Theo brought him in, its all hands on deck to try to defend, since Beltre is from the DR, its all hands on deck to promote him.

So it's because Beltre's from the DR and because Theo brought him? Not very smart there, are you?

It's not because he's hitting .330 plus, getting on base, and in fact, getting to balls, even if he's making stupid decisions afterward.

When confronted numbers and facts, make up ******** to "create" an argument. Well done.

haha, keep proving my point. Once he cools off and continues to play poor defense, Lowell will be at third. I really hope he turns it around with the glove, but right now you can't argue he's been terrible over there.

I'm obviously proving your point "hahahaha".

Interesting thing to note: He's sure to cool off, but not sure to correct his issues.

Obviously an objective opinion.

Beltre sucks, Drew sucks, Theo sucks. Dump them all.

Here is the thing, you are assuming he will cool off and that his defense wont improve. Why cant his defense improve? Its May, he has time. Also, Lowell's defense isn't an improvement, even when Beltre is making errors he is better fielder then Lowell. Lowell has little to almost no range. Beltre gets to balls and makes errors that Lowell cant even get too. Once Beltre settles in and stops making stupid decisions one he gets to the ball, he'll be fine. Meanwhile, if we have Lowell out there, we'll need to upgrade at SS to cover up for how little range Lowell has.

Its hilarious to me how last year everybody hated Lowell defensively and an upgrade at 3B was a must, now you want Lowell back because suddenly he's a great fielder. Lol.

You must be Dominican or really like Dominicans. People only defend Beltre under one of those circumstances. It's not because of the potential upside!

He is viable for 100 games a year if used right' date=' but viable doesn't mean he is a better defensive option than Beltre. [b']Beltre is a gold glove caliber guy at 3B, I never denied that.[/b] I still firmly believe that the offensive numbers Beltre will put up won't be better than Lowell's if Lowell played in Fenway for 81 games a year. Offense doesn't get any better, but the overall defense does with this move. Plus its for one year, I was unhappy with being tied up with this guy for three years or whatever he is looking for. He's playing for a big contract, so he'll try his best, I like the move for one year.

You must be Dominican too.

I'll prove a point here: You're a Theo basher. You even acknowledged that you "Liked Beltre", but now that he's not looking as expected on the field, you're taking an "I always knew he'd be a bust" approach, which is a lie. You just found an opening to bash the FO and the team , and ran with it. Hindsight is 20/20.

Some objectivity would be nice as well.

You know nothing.

You don't say?

You really think you know more than the people shelling out the money, and who have an entire scouting team in place for their own players?

Not only do you know nothing, you have a hilarious sense of self-entitlement.Your t.v based scouting report mean little.

WTF is this TV thing you are on with me? I've been to three games at Fenway this year already and have watched most of the rest on a 55 inch HD TV. I can see the games and the players fine.

Also, after seeing Beltre field the ball this year, I seriously wonder whether your FO boys ever sent anyone to watch him before giving him $15 million. Or did they just look up his phony UZR and watch Boras's video clips?

You've been to three games at Fenway!!!! Well that obviously tells you everything you need to know about Beltre's defense.

I wonder if the FO bashers had ever seen anything of Beltre before he arrived here, and if the FO bashers know how UZR works.

Any stat that proves the worth of a player you don't like is useless. Mental note made.

I'm obviously for real, and i don't need to call you an idiot, given the fact that your "been to three games and you to none!!!!!111!!!" defense is both ridiculous and humorous.

It's not a defense of anything. It just is.

I watch the games, which is more than you do.

rhet' date=' your not Dominican so he hates you. You also oppose so of Theo's off season moves, so of course you will be bashed unfairly[/quote']

You're hilariously stupid.

You're not bashed because you're not Dominican. You're bashed because of the above reason. I also didn't know JD Drew was Dominican. You bash him and take s*** for it. Also for the above reason.
