* The Red Sox have lost four straight games against Baltimore. That hasn't happened since 2004.

2004! That was a good year, if I recall correctly.

the beauty of the Red Sox is that even the worst case scenario is confined to one year. All of our most likely problems are going to be guys we'll be rid of this offseason unless we give them a reason to stay -- with the sole exception of Marco Scutaro So we aren't going to have guys we're stuck with indefinitely if they turn out to be disastrous.

Looking at who's in position to come up and contribute to the Sox within the next 3 years it looks like Theo had our bigger problems pegged -- Reddick in the outfield, Lowrie and Iglesias at short, and Expo, Wagner and that new Cuban kid behind the plate are all less than 2 years away. I still hold out some hope for some of our youngsters to possibly be solutions to our bigger problems.

You're still holding out hope for Lowrie?

Gotta say, i admire your positive thinking.

I couldn't agree more.

He's still got all the talent he ever had.

And if he can't perform, we have Iglesias.

Never a question of talent. It's a question of health.

It's the other way around right now. If Iglesias can't perform, we may have Lowrie.

Hmmm. Positive thinking.................

We don't have to play the powerhouse Orioles again for a little while??????

I disagree. I feel like the only reason someoone would feel that way is because Lowrie's been disappointing because of his health. It's a "grass is greener" approach rather than a dispassionate one IMHO.

If he ever gets healthy, Lowrie would still be ahead of Iglesias on the depth chart. It would take a full year in the minors -- at least -- for Iglesias to catch Lowrie if both were in position to play ball and we needed a SS.

Dont forget Beltre's player option. If he continues to play shoddy defense and shows a total loss of power, then he might take the sox up on that 5 mil player option

Then pay him his money and move him on. Problem solved.

Good one..

On a personal front - if I cancel MLB.TV I save $20 per month.

I don't feel like buying Red Sox merchandise, therefore saving dough

Positive.

I'm not going to buy overpriced tickets on ticket selling websites for a Fenway game this year.

Positive.

This works. It's not run prevention, it's wallet saver protection. "I'm lovin' it" like David Wells at a McDonalds drive thru. BOO YA.

No he will not.

The Sox spent all of that money on Iglesias because he'd be a game-changer with the glove, and anything he could provide with the bat would be a plus. Not to mention he's actually healthy, so there are no question marks surrounding him besides what's his offensive ceiling.

Uplifting thing: Daniel Bard is occasionally dominant and seems to be getting better. If he can execute his pitches consistently he could be an elite closer. He can make guys look silly when his secondary stuff is on.

Team's won three in a row, pitching's looking shutdown, Papi and Beltre have started hitting, Drew is sizzling, V-Mart is showing signs of life on both offense and defense, the pitching is starting to come around, as has the defense, and the Sox all-around play has looked less sloppy, it seems the team has regained focus.

This team needs more offense

That was the refrain all winter. Let's take a look:

Home runs

Blue Jays 43

Diamondbacks 40

Red Sox 39

Doubles

Blue Jays 80

Tigers 76

Red Sox 68

OPS

Yankees .822

Diamondbacks .814

Red Sox .812

Slugging

Diamondbacks .467

Red Sox .464

Those pesky facts. Still the Sox are only ninth in runs scored. But that is a product of poor situational hitting early in the season and we're starting to see that even out now. By the All-Star break, the guess here is they'll be top four or five.

Jason Bay is hitting .238 with one (1) home run in the National League, by the way. He has struck out 33 times in 101 at-bats.

I think critics failed to realize just how good the offense was at the end of last year. When the spots in the lineup that are usually more defensive-minded were held by Ellsbury/Pedroia/Al-gon/Martinez, that's going to be a top lineup.

What has made this year's lineup so great is that they've been getting a lot of success from bench players and replacements like Lowell/Hermida/Varitek/McDonald, even when the starting players have been underperforming. There are not many teams who will have a bench that strong offensively, and now that everyone is starting to get themselves together, its only going to work better for them.

Dipre is chuckling and expecting responses from the likes of TheMino and Jacko. Please provide them.

The Red Sox are in good shape. We're a top offensive team now that we've replaced Green with Scutaro and Varitek every day with Martinez. And we'll be a top pitching and defensive team once stalwarts like Beckett, Lackey and Beltre come around. And we've been without 2 of our regular players most of the year.
