I'm beginning to think the best thing that could happen to Red Sox Nation is a couple losing seasons. That way the entitled fans would find a new hobby when they realized they didn't really like baseball - just the winning. And some of the old-timers, that should know better, would remember the reality of how difficult it is to make the playoffs in the toughest division in baseball - year after year after year and everyone would appreciate a winning season (when it happened again) a great deal more.

We're nothing CLOSE to Old School Red Sox.

Old School Red Sox was one good hitter, one good starter, a closer if you were lucky, no baserunning -- at all -- and a rotation of schlubs in just about every other position.

Old School Red Sox to me was a team that carried all of these OFers on the same roster: Yaz, Rice, Lynn, Evans, Carbo, Miller and Beniquez. That was old school. No one ran on those guys, and the OFers were never 7,8 and 9 in the batting order. Now the OF is Drew and a bunch of dreck.

Yaz, Cecil Cooper, not too shabby. Second basemen did what they were supposed to do. Cover ground and catch balls. Oh, and the old school team had a catcher that could throw the ball- Fisk.

Don't forget that FIsk could hit better too.

I hate that girls go to Sox games! I want Fenway to be a sausage fest!

*sigh*

Just remember, the Sox hadn't won a World Series when it was "old school." If bedazzling the Sox makes us win championships, then I'm ok with it.

If you want to talk about "entitlement," it's "die-hard fans" who think going to see one of the most popular baseball teams should be cheap and easy.

and they just won World Series after World Series' date=' Yes, THOSE were the days.[/quote']They were almost always competitive and never boring. Of course, nothing is better than winning a World Series and I realize how rare that is. However, the old school guys were fun to watch too. It wasn't like they were a s*** team like the Nationals or the pre-2008 Rays.

True Red Sox fans will follow the teeam, no matter what. The ones that jumped on the band wagon are not baseball fans. The old Red Sox will not come back

Thank you, the "old school" Red Sox didn't win a World Series for 86 years

Old school was Hobson pushing the bone chips around in his elbow before launching one 10' over Boomer's head.

Bingo!

Look my favorite team is and always will be 1975, Dewey, Fisk, The Golddust Twins, El Tiante... it was a beautiful thing but the Old Time Red Sox really were Jose Offerman, Denny Doyle, the Gerbil and good old Clell "Butch" Hobson. Those days are dead and we should all be greatful for it.

That's old school? Child. That's recent history.

:lol::lol:

You are correct Sir.

Yaz, Smith, Tony C., Foy, Petrocelli, Andrews, Scott, Howard, Lonborg.

I'll take that team any day.

Hobson played with Scott?

I must be suffering from old age here. Butch Hobson played with George Scott. When was Scott traded to the Brewers? 1972 or 1973?

I stand corrected. Lol.

It was either after the 1971 or 1972.
