Is this shift on Drew a new thing? I don't recall it being an issue before.

Kind of, but he really needs to work on going the other way. It drives me crazy that he doesn't bunt every time they do. It is a game they play and he needs to play back.

I was listening to the Met broadcast on Saturday and Ralph Kiner had a few good lines. Pagan lost a ball in the sun which he tried to shade with his bare hand. After Kiner explained the proper way to shade the sun and play that ball (a lost art on many of today's players) the other announcers asked when it is appropriate to score such a ball a hit and not an error. Kiner answered: "In little league." The other announcers got a good laugh. The play had been scored a double.

Saw on a twitter that linked to audio of Jon Sterling referring to the Yankees baserunning as a bunch of drunks. Pretty funny stuff

That's good stuff. We saw another example of poor fundamental play last week when Borbon (sp) back peddled and Scutaro made him pay. In fact, there are many players that don't execute routine plays the way the game is taught.

Tampa shifts on him too.

Everyone should shift on Drew. Have you seen him make an adjustment? It is ridiculous to think a pro ball player cannot go the other way. He really need to do something about it. He would become a better hitter.

It's not like he is a big HR hitter that jacks one out of the park every 15 ABs. Why not take the free base hit?

I agree 100%. Also, if Drew started bunting to the left side, they would have to change back to the standard D because of it; therefore, helping him in the long run. I have seen him make a lot of out because of the shift (just like his last at bat) that would probably be base hits.

Going the other way would seem to be somewhat dependent on what pitches you see. And almost no one knows how to bunt well anymore from what I've seen.

Yeah, he's really more of an OBP guy. I don't understand why he wouldn't take an easy trip to first. He's a strong fundamental guy who played much of his career in the national league. He should be able to bunt.

And he has pretty good wheels.

What do you think' date=' is Lester done?[/quote']

106 pitches. Would be hard to send him out there again, but ya never know I suppose with Tito

That is not entirely true. Look at Jeter's swing. All you have to do is let the ball get deep into the zone and get your hands inside the baseball.

Now bunting should be very easy for him, hell, there is no one on that side of the field. If he can’t figure out how to put down a bunt in BP, be needs to find another career.

Hence the words seem and somewhat.

Most likely' date=' 106 pitches is pretty high.[/quote']

He averaged over 106 pitches a game last year. I think I'd go batter by batter and see if he can get some quick outs.
