He was a scumbag RF for the Yankees. I don't recall all the specifics, but there were plays/games where he was the center of attention. Beer bottles were thrown on the field and Yankees hate ensued. Police had to get evolved, I think. Before that, no one ever shouted "Yankees Suck". Yankee games were just another game. a700 probably remembers more than I do.

Prior to Rivers, Sox fans in the Boston area were just as/more concerned with other teams.

Mickey Rivers was a dirt-bag degenerate gambler who had the nerve to ask for a raise on a post-game show after winning MVP of a nationally televised Saturday Game of the Week, because he had squandered his entire year's pay at the track and he was out of money. When the rivalry was heating up, fans at Yankee stadium were throwing batteries at the Red Sox OFers. When the Yankees went to Fenway, legend has it that Rivers got nailed in the arm with game dart. It was 1976 when the "Red Sox Suck" chant started at Yankee Stadium, and I went to high school with the douche bag who started the chant that night. Of course the Fenway faithful were not to be outdone.

That great catch was necessitated by an incredibly poor route

All that matter is that he made the catch. Thames wouldn't have.

Thames wouldn't have to run to get the ball, the ball would come to him.

I know who the hell Mickey Rivers is. Spud's spelling issues threw me off. Thought he meant that kid from the cereal commercials or something.

Regardless, the Yankees are doing their best to squander plenty of opportunities. Tex looks like he did last April. Aceves continues to just throw strikes. I like him. Stuff is average, but his approach is solid and he gets outs. He might give up a few longballs, but he gets the job done overall
