Awful job by Cano, setting up the entire inning for failure.

He looks great early this year, but there are still little adjustments that he needs to make.

Have to admit, AJ has looked good today. If it wasn't for his inability to control the running game, this game would either be tied or AJ would be pitching a shut out.

Ever since Joe Maddon took over this team, they really have become a pretty dirty team. As a runner, you're just not supposed to do what Pat Burrell did. Maybe for some reason they feel that they need to do these kind of things to hang with the Yankees and Red Sox. Either way, there is no place for it.

And Granderson with two nice plays.

AJ struggles with speedy runners on. Ever since the first' date=' he's been solid. Impressed by the offensive approach too. Shields is dominant, but we got him out after 5.1IP[/quote']

If AJ was able to control the running game, he might be pitching a shutout. I get on him a lot, but he has been good today.

Part of the game. Not really different than say...hitting a pop fly over the Green Monster.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Outfield dimensions are a completely different story. Objects obstructing the field of play is another thing. You really could not be more wrong with that analogy.

Nice job. Really loved seeing them get out of it.

Anyway, MLB needs to reassess the ground rules here. Any ball that hits the ceiling that isn't going to be a home run cannot be in play.

Gom wrong? No way

Not really. This kind of thing was prevalent in baseball in the past. You do realize that the monuments were in play in the old stadium? I'm not saying I like it, but how different is it really from a bad hop on an infield? Games are not played in a vacuum.

I believe you're letting your fandom cloud your judgement.

Have you ever been right? Seriously? About anything baseball related?

And with the exception of the Astros, no other team has objects in play. There is a reason for that, and the Astros shouldn't be allowed to do it either.

And comparing it to a bad hop? Are you kidding me? There is an obstruction in play. I don't care what used to be, it's absolutely ridiculous either way.

And for the record, fandom isn't influencing anything, because Jacko and I are maintaing the same position even though it didn't hurt the Yankees. I'm surprised that you feel the way you do, and I guess I would be interested to see what other members of the forum thing.

Do I like it? No. Of course not. However, it is so random and happens so infrequently, I don't see it as an issue. A lot of stadiums have quirks...angles, wall dimensions...look at Oakland. They have the largest foul ground in baseball. Many of those popups at the stadium that are 4 rows back are easily in play in Oakland.

I'm not upset about it, nor would I have been upset about it if it changed the outcome. I get upset at bad calls. That's my pet peeve. However, a ball hitting a speaker or a catwalk...hey, what can you do?

A pitcher has to look at it as an error. It happens. Hitch up your belt and get out of it. Which is exactly what he did.

This sport is such a joke without instant replay.

EDIT: This is obviously an exaggerated, heat of the moment comment, but the general point still stands.

You can say about anything that the pitcher needs to hitch up his belt and get out of it, even a bad call. There are things that shouldn't have an influence on the outcome. Weird field dimensions are entirely different thing than obstructions, no matter how infrequently it happens. Let me try to draw a comparison for you, and don't get caught up in the frequency of the event.

How would you feel if there was a screen right in front of the third basemen? Sure, it's going to have a much bigger impact on the game than the catwalks, but the principle is still the game. Objects and obstructions like that should not have any impact on the outcome of the game.

And for the record, I think they shouldn't be allowed to play in a stadium like this, but, at the very least, any ball that hits a catwalk that isn't going to be a home run has got to be foul. You cannot have a pop up like that turn into a hit because of obstructions. It is a direct hinderance to the integrity of the game.
