This is a non-story. He's trying to get back into the good graces of sox fans since he's gonna be working about 90 miles outside of Boston for the forseeable future. He hated Boston by the end of it and the fans hated him too. Surprised that this hasnt been a total PR failure for him, I am surprised that some didnt see right through this charade. It isnt about celebrating Nomar. It's a self serving ploy that seems to have worked for some

Until he ends up Re-Rivernating.

Yes Jackson' date='Nomar did this as a ploy to sell more Nomar #5 jerseys. You've got to be kidding[/quote']

It has nothing to do with the jerseys. It has everything to do with having a feel good moment to end his career on and smooth his transition into the broadcast booth. It serves nobody but himself. For the record, Larry Lucchino was against it

If you don't have a source, you're making it up. Please stop making stuff up. Thanks.

You can' date=' however, ground out, fly out, pop out, line out and Ground into double or triple play. Besides, this is not a one hundred AB sample size we're talking about, he swung at the first pitch 1,279 times over his career. Nothing misleading about it, it is what it is.[/quote']

Perhaps misleading was not a good word to use. My greater point, however, stands. Lots of guys have great stats on a 0-0 count. I mean, just on he current Sox, you have guys like Jeremy Hermida and Bill Hall who have a +.900 OPS on a 0-0 count.

not exactly difficult to do.

It also serves the many Red Sox fans who are happy to see one of the franchise's all-time great players retire in a Red Sox jersey. Regardless of what went on behind the scenes or anyone's true motives in what happened yesterday, unless you're just the world's most cynical prick, what the hell is wrong with taking this story at face value?

Prove this. Don't take the douche route and disappear from the thread for the next 3 pages until this turd of a comment blows over.

That is true.

However, baseball reference, in its splits section, has an adjusted OPS statistic that depends on ball-strike count. Nomar's OPS+ swinging at the first pitch is 119, which is very much above league average.

Nomar Garciaparra splits ball-strike count.

And lay off Jackson. He jus doesn't have a clue what Nomar meant to this town, this city, and the conflictng emotions everyone felt when he left.

Nomar WAS the Red Sox. Yeah Pedro and Manny were better players during his time here but there's never been anyone like Nomar for Sox fans. He was an absolutely electric ballplayer, and he was IT in the late 90s and early 00s.

Jackson will have to remember what he said after the Yanks and Jeter have their messy divorce following this season.

I've given up. He'll keep being an ******* and making douchebag comments like this, and if i were to confront him, then i'll receive the typical "This is X Dominican issue". He's an idiot, and there's nothing we can do about it, so i suggest we all just ignore him. Maybe he'll go away.

Now that i think about it, doesn't he live in Boston?

I don't recall having heard any Sox fans hating Nomar then or at any point during his career in Boston. The media did their best to stir the pot in the summer of 2004 but it never resulted in fan disdain for Nomar. In fact, to this day, many Boston sports fans see Nomar as a Bird type icon. I'm assuming you were living here six years ago. If so, how could you not know this?

But will Jeter and the Yanks have a messy divorce after this season? I don't see it happening.

There's two possible outcomes. Either the Yankees pay Jeter a ridiculous contract into years where he is no longer a capable ballplayer, let alone SS, or they decide that it is time to move on from him after this offseason and risk pissing off their fanbase to a level unheard of.

Either way, it will be a good outcome for Sox fans. NWIH do they sign a mutually benefical deal to short years.
