Sounds better all the time.

Go U.S.A.!

The 1996 US WCOH roster was a veritable Dream Team of American hockey players, with guys like Brett Hull, Chris Chelios, John LeClair, Jeremy Roenick, Mike Modano and Mike Richter all at the pinnacle of their careers.

Canada, Russia, USA.

In terms of the USA, this is the strongest team we've had since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. The team we had in Torino in 2006 were just guys who played in the NHL and happened to be American.

I'd substitute Sweden for the US. Their IIHF ranking is 3rd. They won the gold in 2006. I really like their roster - Kronwall, Franzen, Sedin twins, Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Backstrom, Lidstrom, Ohlund, Lundqvist, etc.

Obviously, the US can't match talent for talent with Russia or Canada but they are legitimate contenders to medal simply because of the game-changing presence of Ryan Miller, who will be starting EVERY game, and I do believe he is the best goalie in the tournament.

USA's defense is questionable though. It's a great defense for an NHL team, but not one of those players would have made the cut for Canada.

I hope Miller gets warmed up in the prelims. When it comes to the playoffs or a tournament-style round, you know a hot goalie can carry you far.

I didn't see her race, but Lyndsey Vonn is impressive. I bitch about my shins all the time when I ski and she just went ahead and won a gold metal.

Yeah, he hit on his 2nd run when he had the gold already locked up. Got like a 48.4 score on the run. Lago (USA) got the bronze so its nice to see USA pick up two more medals

Vonn took a spill today and didn't medal. I somehow brought myself to watch woman's curling earlier USA vs. Denmark
I sometimes watch the skiing on Universal Sports. Slalom is not her fort?.

FYI in case you've never seen it, Universal Sports airs the stuff ESPN used to air before they put on their big boy pants. They air skiing, cycling, track and field, etc.

Australian Rules Football?

I remember when ESPN went on the air. They used to show some really great stuff - jetskiing, wrestling, tons of boxing. The broke into football airing USFL games. Chris Berman was from Cheshire, Dan Patrick lives a few blocks from me, there was a ton of local influence at ESPN.

No, no Aussie Rules Football.

I have seen that though. Much better than its rugby cousin.

Isn't the Chargers' punter an ex-Aussie Rules footballer?

I'm not sure. But I loved watching Aussie Rules. I remember getting cable TV in high school. ESPN, MTV, HBO...it was a whole new world. Before that, we had what was considered "great reception" in our neighborhood. We could pull in a dozen-plus stations over air with our rooftop antenna.

Canada just beat the Swiss in extra frames of a shootout.

Hell of a game.

Perhaps the Swiss are better than people thought when they were criticizing the U.S. team for not beating them by a wider margin.

That's how I get Universal Sports.

The U.S. is kicking ass in these Olympics. We have 18 medals overall, second best is Germany with a meager 11. The world is our bitch!

WOO HOO!!

and I've watched ever boring, lame ass event so far... Yes, I am the one that actually watched the cross-country skiing.

Just at the corner store, said hello and quickly exchanged pleasantries. Understandably, he was polite but somewhat in a hurry. I would be too, if you stopped to talk with everyone who recognized you it would take a couple of hours to grab a gallon of milk. It can't be easy.
