This is not a good situation. Players are such creatures of habit, especially pitchers, that this type of uncertainty can have a very detrimental impact. They need to get their act together and decide the direction that they want to take.

Wakefield looked good yesterday. There was no solid contact against him until his last inning. He had quite a few k's. Buchholz looked like crap on Tuesday. I am not surprised that this article mentions that Dice K was not throwing very hard yesterday. That was pretty obvious to those of us in attendance. He came in against the Marlin scrubs and he couldn't overpower anyone.

Almanzar is clearly no longer a prospect. He's with the team to fill innings at the end of games as is Jason Place. Both look overpowered even against minor league scrub pitching. Almanzar looked like a blind man swatting flies.

Wow...someone who actually doesn't think his team's prospects are all solid gold. What's this site coming to?

When did you get back?

And how long were you planning on staying?:D

Not related to spring training, but Jerry Remy's twitter had something funny

@Jerry_Remy: So far 60% are in favor of Nomar playing opening game - where do you stand? take poll - http://remy.trufan.com/polls

And his twitter has endless tweets about his new restaurant, directions to his new restaurant and tweets from his business partner. But god love him (Remy) for milking so much money out of Red Sox fans with the whole 'Remdog' thing and his side business projects.

I'll get banned in October, after the Yankees win the World Series...again. Red Sox fans here are really thin-skinned. :harhar:

Yankees can't go back to the W.S till Arod's Canadian doctor is allowed to practice medicine again;)

Hey, if Jacko can practice medicine....

Almanzar and Place were never considered Casey Kelly type "cant miss" prospects

Almanzar was considered to be up there with Montero when the sox signed him. Place was a guy with high upside but fell off the map. I would argue that Almanzar was hyped a la Kelly when they got him, but that shine quickly faded.

You blatantly made that up.

I never heard Almanzar's or Place's names brought up whenever there was trade buzz. Maybe there was somewhat of buzz when they signed... but both have done jack squat to merit top prospect status

Exactly. INTL signees arent trade chips until they show something in the states. Almanzar never did.

And Dipre, once again, you are wrong. When the sox signed Almanzar, he was being primed as a generational talent who was a can't miss player who would be in the sox lineup for years to come. His signing came on the heels of NY beating the sox out for Montero and they spun it to make it look less bad.

Being called wrong by you. Lol.

Almanzar didn't receive nearly as much hype, media coverage or other assorted coverage as Casey "Two-way stud" Kelly. If you believe otherwise, please prove it. You won't be able to.

This just isn't true. He wasn't called a generational talent or a can't miss player. He was called a young kid with a huge frame and tremendous upside if his talent matched his frame. Please Jacko.

Age: 17

Born: December 2, 1990

Santo Domingo, DR

Height: 6-3

Weight: 190

Bats: Right

Throws: Right

Drafted: Not drafted

How Acquired: International free agent (July 2007)

High School: Dominican Baseball Academy

ETA: 2013

MLB Comparison: Jorge Cantu

Quote:

Scouting Report: A tall, lanky shortstop - Almanzar is extremely athletic, but also extremely raw. He's very thin now, but his frame looks like it has room to add a lot of muscle and strength. He signed at the age of 16 and hadn't played much organized ball prior to his signing, despite that he's the son of former MLB pitcher Carlos Almanzar. Offensively, Almanzar is mostly potential at this point. His stance and swing are closer to little-league than big league. He fidgets a lot in the box, has an open stance that tightens up a lot after a huge timing step. Regardless, he generates a lot of bat speed and has plus plus power potential. Almanzar is also a work-in-progress defensively. Not a great fielder at 3B yet, despite that he spent much of his (albeit limited) time before signing at SS. His arm is strong but erratic. Basically, he's the ultimate raw toolsy player, and the Red Sox apparently hope to turn him into a star from the ground up.

Please stop making stuff up, Jacko.

Wrong, lol.

Posted
Jacko please give us evidence when Almanzar was rated in the ranks of Casey Kelly/Clay Buchholz/Jon Lester/Jonathan Papelbon, etc? He would only be in that class, if he actually produced anything on the field!! Which he clearly hasnt. The only thing that has been praised about him is his Raw talent and upside

How about Jason Place??

Ryan Westmoreland/Ryan Kalish/Josh Reddick have been mentioned in trades, why not Place?

Place like Almanzar is another young kid taken that has raw talent and high upside... but has hit Mendoza in Single A.

For the record, Jacko has posted in other threads since his made-up Sox hype-job here, obviously waiting for this to blow over. Let's not let it blow over.

This is exactly what I said. Exactly. Note the bolded portion. When the sox signed him, he was a massive hype job. WHEN THEY SIGNED HIM. He never reached the level that Lester, Kelly, et al reached later on because he never was very good in the minors. But WHEN HE SIGNED, he was hyped a la Kelly, Buchholz, etc. I am making a comparison to when he signed to when the sox got Kelly, Buchholz, Lester, etc. Seriously, you guys are just waiting for anything I say to jump on it here. Must be getting kinda ancy since the season's about to start.

Here are a few articles from around the time the sox got him...

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/58902-boston-red-sox-prospects-report-third-base

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2009/267146.html

Very interesting that he'd be 2 spots behind Kelly after Almanzar was struggling in Greenville.

And seriously, Dipre, you are quite possibly the biggest troll here. You really are waiting for me to post and monitoring my status? What are you, some kind of dominican stalker? You need to get a life son, I have been working for 24 hours posting sporadically. That's why I didnt see your little baited trap.

Posted

Those articles don't prove that he was being "pinned as a generational talent" or "hyped a la Kelly".

Seriously, Dipre nothing, stop making s*** up.

Posted

I didnt know that 8th top prospect (ranked year and half ago) in organization meant untouchable

Bleacher report... this is the same site (and only site!!) that has said that the Sox REALLY want to move the versatile Youkilis.

And that article is not hyping that he will be a generational talent... its just listing the 3rd base prospects in the organization haha, and that he has raw talent

Jacko has the gall to call me a troll when he's obviously the number one troll on site.

Jacko's modus operandi:

1) Make outrageous or downright ridiculous claim.

2) Do his best to either not back it up at all or use the dumbest arguments in the history of civilization.

3) Watch people get pissed and respond him using logic and other assorted arguments.

4) Get the hell out of the thread.

5) Watch s*** hit the fan.

6) Come back three or four pages later like nothing happened.

Trollin', if ya ask me.
