Pretty interesting stuff on Miguel Cabrera's trade value. He has very little according to the author, unless we can can get Detroit to dump his salary on us for one or two decent propsects, we shouldn't bite. Absorbing a contract like that is pretty killer, especially at first base, where Youkilis already does a good job and you can replace talent there relatively easily.

Eh, I don't really buy it. He's one of the elite hitters in the game, and he's still in his prime. His bat would instantly give the Sox a much more dangerous lineup. Name five hitters in the game who are better right now. And his fielding at 1st base was passable this year, according to UZR. I don't care how big his contract is. This man is worth every penny.

Nerds at FanGraphs are hardly infallible. This wouldn't be the first time they've been wrong.

Cabrera can also play 3B and LF' date=' even if it's not adequately, positional flexibility does add to his value.[/quote']

Youkilis can play LF too, but that doesn't mean its a great option to have him out there. Cabrera's weight has him stuck at first base, would you seriously think it would be good option having him out there as a LF or 3B. He would have no range and would be a defensive liability. The guy is destined to be a DH. Still I want him, espically if we can take a big contract like Ordonez's also and maybe don't give up as many prospects.

I don't know why everyone is hating on Miggy's abilities at 1B.

Player A's 2009 UZR for 2009 was - 3.7(152)

Player B's was 2.8(153 games)

Player A is touted as a GG type 1B, that was a key Defensive presence in the IF. While player B's defensive is constantly challenged.

Not saying it's unwarranted for previous performances, but the player took a big step in the field this year. And should be given credit.

I'm just saying, he wouldn't be like sticking Manny or Ortiz at 1B.

UZR is pretty much useless when it comes to 1st basemen. Mark Teixeira is an ELITE 1st basemen, anyone can see that with their own two eyes.

The fact that UZR says Cabrera is better than Teixeira should set an alarm to the fact that the stat is useless.

The post never meant to say that Cabrera is a better defensive player than Tex.

However, this year, (and i'm assuming you know how UZR works even though you probably don't) not only did UZR show Cabrera as being a slightly above average defender, so did range factor per game and per 9 innings (8.3 and 8.9 respectively, actually 0.1 above Teixeira), which is a marked increase from his negative numbers last year on every one of those four defensive metrics (UZR, UZR/150, Rng/9,Rng/G).

Your comment is asinine and an obvious show of ignorance, if you've got nothing to contribute to the discussion other than butthurt because someone compared Miguel Cabrera's defense to Mark Teixeira's last year (without actually backing it up of course) please stop posting in the site.

Thanks.

If you honestly believe Miguel Cabrera is a better defensive 1st basemen... than you are A COMPLETE MORON.

Instead of relying on useless stats how about you open up your eyes and watch.

No one has said Miguel Cabrera is a better 1st baseman.

If you knew how to read, you'd have realized that by now.

I bet you haven't even seen Miguel Cabrera play much 1B, yet you're running your mouth. Hilarious.

Fantastic defense of your utter and complete ignorance.

Thanks for further enhancing my point. May i suggest you gather up enough brainpower to stop drooling all over the keyboard while you type?

Who would've thought a couple decades ago that an extra chromosome was a bad thing, how times change!

It's time for Tyler to go. Let him find another Red Sox forum for handful of posts and a banning. He really showed us. Didn't he.
