Wait a minute. They deal a soft tossing lefty reliever and a kid with minimal ceiling who is in A ball for Hermida? Hermida was once one of the best prospects in baseball and still has tons of talent to spare. This is a very solid move for Boston, very, very solid. Hermida at least provides league AVG OPS in LF where a guy like Reddick is truly an unknown. And if Boston got his head right, he could be a very solid player.

Yeah, I'm loving the upside on the deal and the downside isn't bad either.

what downside? Hunter Jones had no future in Boston and the other kid is not gonna make it out of the minors in all likelihood. Seems like this is a salary dump, as he made 2.25mil last yr and might be due a raise

AHAHAHA, at his new signature.

The greatest franchise produced the greatest choke in sports. I never can hate that team after '04, god bless.

I think Jacksonian should change "best" to "wealthiest". The day they introduce a cap into MLB will be the day the Yankee Empire falls.

Not a bad move. Where's he supposed to play though' date=' is Theo already counting on losing Bay?[/quote']

4th OF?

Getting a guy like Hermida might be very useful in the "MLB ready talent" category for potential trades. The Sox could probably move both Hermida and Kotchman in a package with good MLB talent and give the receiving team players at many stages of their careers.

What team wouldn't want to get back a young talented player like this if they're giving up a top player? All things being equal, I think it would sweeten any package and the Sox could treat it as nothing but a throw-in.

Look at what it took to get Hermida and then rethink your post.

Think about it this way. Hermida is the broken down old house that you can get for 90K. If you build it back up, you could double or triple your money. But getting that 90K house and then trying to resell it without doing anything to it is not really a great philosophy.

Hermida is at worst, a not so bad 4th OFer. At best, he could become a decent starting major league OFer. I dont think his ceiling is as high as it was before, but he still comfortably projects as a starter if his performance catches up with his talent

LOL @ cap. Also...you really think you guys will win? That's funny. Enter the world of the Minnesota Twins!!!!

You set the cap at $100M, that doesn't hurt us that much. We can get under that next year if we need to.

It sure hurts NYY though. They lose half their payroll and more.

The Sox can field a competitive team under a 100 million dollar salary cap right now, and the Yankees can't.

Just curious. Did you come up with the $100M number independently Dipre? Or did you use that level because I used it in the post above yours?

I used it because i saw yours, and because it's actually a very sensible number.

Self-serving.

$100 million. Funny.

You know how many teams are at or over 100 million in 2009?

Nine.

So..let's pick a number where we can trim the fat and still have a good team.

You know what the 15th team in contracts is at? 81 million.

How good is your team at $81 million? Can you beat the Twins?

I'll help you out.

No.

Plus, the Twins are spotting you 14 million since they sit at 67 million.

If it wasn't for Yeszir's desire to play nice with no personal attacks, I'd call you a douchebag.

If a cap were to be instituted, it'd probably be along the lines of 100-110 million dollars. Use logic.

And, i'm pretty sure we could field a much better team than the Yanks could with 81 mill.

Just sayin'.

"Girardi said he was likely to switch from uniform No. 27 to No. 28 next year, signifying the next quest. "

LOL

off-topic, but still...

Can Girardi just change his uniform # to the Yankees payroll figure for next year?

215?

And Boras continues his quest to get Mr. Holliday to NY:

Damon and Holliday both are represented by the same agent, Scott Boras.

"They could play Matt Holliday in right field, too," Scott Boras said. "He has a strong arm. They have needs for two outfielders."

Logic=What's best for the Red Sox, irrespective of the rest of baseball. Let's set a cap where only 1/3 of the teams in baseball can hit. f*** the other 2/3.

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up, sport!!

I like the move for a couple of reasons. He's young, under control at a reasonable cost, and has tremendous upside. This is the classic buy-low move and the Sox should reap a solid reward if he can figure out how to hit to the opposite field.

Also, Hunter Jones was garbage. Getting anything for him is a steal IMO

Ahh such blatant ********.

We're talking a hypothetical scenario.

No need to get so butthurt.
