Royals Agree To Trade Mark Teahen To Sox

According to Bill Madden of The NY Daily News, the Royals have agreed to send the versatile Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Madden says Teahen is expected to replace free agent-to-be Jermaine Dye in rightfield.

Frankly I'd heard of this at another site awhile ago. Not really surprised they dealt him. I am surprised the Royals went for Getz and Fields as a return though. That's a bit of a headscratcher. One would have thought they'd try for positions that didn't duplicate two of their best young players.

Giving up Getz and Fields for Teahen is a steal for the White Sox. Getz is a smart player and a good baserunner, but he doesn't get on base nearly enough to allow you to overlook his lack of extra base hits.

 

Fields is an underachiever whose last name belies the fact that he can't field at all. And on a personal level, I don't like him because he seriously mused retirement because... wait for it... he doesn't like what goes on in a clubhouse. True story.

The report first appeared Thursday in the New York Daily News and gained steam when the Chicago Sun-Times cited confirmation from the White Sox. It now appears those reports, at best, are premature.

Depending on the market and how it goes is CWS are looking for a 1B, they might have interest in Kotchman eventually.
