He played great defense. Give the guy a break.

That's an unreasonable request under the circumstances. Allen isn't here to play defense. He's here to play defense, shoot threes, shoot jumpers and be a guy you can go to with short time on the clock to get a critical point.

One out of 4 is not good. And in Game 7? I'm sorry, I'm usually first in line to defend a guy when he has a bad game, but Allen was too integral a part of the Celtics' plan to "give him a break" when he comes up this short at such a critical time.

Jacko' date=' 26, why are you guys rooting for the Celtics? It's not like LeBron going to the Knicks has anything to do with who wins tonight.[/quote']

I always liked the C's. I grew up in Connecticut and the C's used to play 8 games a yr at the Hartford Civic Center, about a half hour from my house. The C's are the only pro basketball team I have seen in person. I like the Knicks too, but more in a feel sorry for them way. Not a big NBA fan

GFY Ray Allen. I don't care if that ******* signs for the league minimum. I don't want to see him in a Celtics uniform ever again.

Most wrong statement ever. The Celtics aren't even in game 7 without Ray Allen.

Meh. The Celtics took a better team to the absolute limit. You can see exactly how the Celtics should have won it, which IMHO is part of the reason there isn't a ton of shame to what happened.

That's just MHO, but honestly? Celtics have a lot to be proud of.

In the end, it all amounts to sophistry anyway of course -- the Lakers win the NBA Championship.

BUT... there's a lot the Celtics can feel good about too. They certainly did put up a fight in the late minutes. And they weren't even supposed to be here. So...

*sigh* I'm getting entirely too familiar with this kind of argument.

Ahh well. Time to talk about how we rebuild the team for next year.

Doc won't come back, Ray Allen shouldn't be re-signed, and the Big 3 is broken up. This will be the last time we see the C's contending for the title for a long, long time

You're probably right. They'll spend a few years in Mediocresville until they finally get down far enough to get a few decent draft picks, and then will begin the slow and tedious rebuilding process.

Fun while it lasted though. And we did get one banner so it's all good.

at a minimum they still have Rondo and Pierce playing at an elite level next year with Garnett also, they'll be a contender again next year.

They'll be a playoff team. "Contender" is a bit high unless they improve their perimeter shooting by a LOT.

I just ask because one of my roommates is a Knicks fan, and he'd only root for the Celtics when they were facing the Cavs because that would end the Cavs season and likely raise LeBron's chances of leaving Cleveland, and potentially going to the Knicks.

I used to watch the Whalers in the Civic Center. If they were still a team, I wouldn't be a Flyers fan.

I think maybe it's time to blow it up anyway. If you're lucky you squeeze one, maybe two playoff years out of this team, but the pieces you could get for some of the players would help start the next wave.

For the record: the NBA will never regain the prominence it had in the Jordan era while every losing team can legitimately and fairly talk about referee fairness issues.

Pierce could opt out. I would if i were him' date=' the C's are going to s***, and its hitting the fan very soon[/quote']

No way he opts out, at this point he'll retire a Celtic. He's still an all-star caliber player, playing with a superstar PG who's only getting better, this team will still be very viable.

if he opts out, he can get one more big contract. I bet he opts out and resigns

A part of me thinks that you re-sign Ray, add another piece and give it one last shot. I don't know, this team really gave it there all and I don't know how much is left for the Big 3 Era

If there is a good side to this, I think it may bolster the Kobe vs. LeBron argument. As one of the Kobe supporters, I doubt that LeBron would be able to do what Kobe does. That's why everyone says "Kobe" when crumpling up a piece of paper and attempting a shot in the garbage.
