Phillips should have been executed for saying the '08 Detroit Tigers had the best lineup in baseball history

So ESPN has Steve Phillips claiming the 2008 Tigers have the best lineup in baseball history, John Kruk predicting Randy Johnson would win 30 games in 2005, and Joe Morgan being Joe Morgan.

You would think, at some point, they might re-think their hiring process.

This would be my first 'Deuce On One ".

I have no problem with the idea. As long as we don't cross swords.

No crossing of swords or any guy contact. We stay in our neutral corners.

Yeah, no s***. Maybe they'll hire Tim McCarver next or something

Haha, well, Tim McCarver is actually my favorite color commentator. I find that knowledge of the game, especially when it comes to pitch selection, to be excellent and enjoyable.

It's not that, it's his analogies, they're god awful, and irritating.

Skip Carey is the worst of them all, seriously, his commentary makes me want to say to God "Why couldn't it have been hiiiiimmm?!?!?!?"

Yeah, McCarver says some silly things, but, overall, I think he dwarfs most of the announcers when it comes to general knowledge of the game. I can ignore the silly lines and whatnot.

EDIT: My point is that I made a comment about Phillips, Kruk, and Morgan saying dumb things about baseball. While McCarver has his flaws, I don't think he fits into the same category as those guys.

Actually, one more thing about McCarver, I'm not sure if any of you guys have ever watched the show on MLB Network that Bob Costas hosts, but I highly recommend. Especially the episode where the guests are McCarver and Bob Gibson. The main point of the show was to discuss Gibson's unbelievable performance in the first game of the 1968 World Series, but they get into many other things as well. McCarver really shows his remarkable knowledge of the intricacies of the game during that interview. It's outstanding stuff.

Jesus.

I agree with you Hater of the South...Jesus...

At any rate...Tim McCarver was on Dan Patrick's radio show the other day and actually said that CALLING a World Series Game was MORE DIFFICULT than playing in one....yeah and a Walk is as good as a Home Run......

He made that statement pertaining to all situations? I find that hard to believe.

He made the "a walk is as good as a Home Run" statement during the 2004 ALCS.

Lynda I know about your unhealthy obsession with Steve Phillips and to think he was humping that wide assed gutter rat when you may have been available is just horrifying.

Had he not gotten that restraining order on you for sending him all those candid shots of you sunbathing nude you may have had a pop at this guy. He's pretty enough for me to bang after a half gallon of gin and a 1/4 z of yayo....Christ was that wanker disgusting.

Yeah Seano, my loss...if only he had contacted me;)

Hope you are feeling better bro!

Good. Steve Phillips picks women like he assembles pitching staffs.

How does one get deemed ""expert analyst"" after trading Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano?..Im not sure if the Wilpons owned the team then but if they did they have had a run of horrible of GM's that continues with Minny Minaya who has taken that team from a contender to the old age home and got rewarded for it.

The Mets are f***ed, their payroll is huge and theyve gone down in the worst ways imaginable over the last 3 years and then this year they just were never in the hunt at all.

Good, I hate the Mets too and I think Bobby Valentine is a closet homosexual.

Posted

Also, the fact that everyone bashes Minaya for running the Mets into the ground is laughable at best.

2003 Mets: 66-95

2004 Mets: 71-91

Minaya is hired as the General Manager...

2005 Mets: 83-79

2006 Mets: 97-65

2007 Mets: 88-74

2008 Mets: 89-73

2009 Mets: 70-92

They had a rough year this year, but they also suffered an extraordinary amount of injuries. Minaya, upon arriving in New York, instantly made them contenders. Phillips also deserves some credit for bringing it David Wright and Jose Reyes.

Posted
Well, to be circumspect about this.... part of the reason they have so many injuries this year has to do with how many over-30 players they have on their roster. Doesn't explain Wright or Reyes though.

You said absolutely nothing in that post.

The main injuries were, in fact, Reyes, Wright and Beltran. Those three are young.

Posted

You're forgetting Delgado. He was a huge part of their offense over the last couple years and they were counting on him pretty heavily this year.

And I did say "over 30." that includes Beltran. Though, again, the injuries to Wright and Reyes are still dang unlucky.

Point of it is though that that Mets roster they opened the season with was pretty old. most of the injuries probably could have been anticipated.

So Beltran, who even though he's over 30, is a pretty healthy guy, he immediately comes as "injury risk" because Minaya signed him?

About Delgado, he's the only "above 30" injury that makes sense, but what other option were there, specially after his productive 2008, re-upping with him was a no-brainer.

After the edit *sigh*, the only injury of importance you could have foreseen was Delgado. Please stick to facts.

This is the entire Mets 2009 injury list. I'd like for someone to point me out if it's true that the "over 30-crowd" dominated the DL this year.

I see a lot of JJ Putz, Angel Pagan, Oliver Perez, Jose Reyes, David Wright, (i'm not mentioning Beltran 'cause he's clearly old), Ramon Martinez, Fernando Martinez, Jonathan Niese and Fernando Nieves.
