I'm sorry if this doesn't deserve a thread, I didn't think it had enough to do directly with the ALDS to go in that thread.

First of all, nobody come in here and question my fanhood. That is not something that is in question here, I am just a realist. I love the Red Sox far too much, it gets in the way of my out of sports life, I'm a Red Sox nut. That being said....

Is anyone having trouble getting really pumped up or positive about this year's playoffs? The Yankees look so f***ing good and we just look so f***ing bad. And the moral beatdown we received from the Yankees running over us in the second half of our season series with them, or maybe it's just last night's pathetic showing. But I'm sitting here on my couch watching this game and I just finished flipping back and forth between this and the Yankees game, and it's ridiculous how negative I feel. Usually I'm the one who always believes in a comeback until the game is over, but I just feel like we are so hopeless and the big bad Yankees are going to win no matter what.

Does anyone else share similar feelings, or do I need an attitude checkup right now?

Thanks for any advice guys, I need to be myself Red Sox fan-wise again.

Yeah. I've been feeling kinda... hollow about this series. I mean when you've got Beckett starting, even down 1-0, you're supposed to have some confidence except.... for some reason, all I feel is numb.

Very well said.

I mean, nobody get me wrong, I still went out to dinner with my girlfriend and had a few drinks and came back to watch the game. And by drinks I mean Pepsi, I needed caffeine to stay up and We're only 17 and 18. <_>

But since then she went back home and for the past 3 hours I've been sitting here on my couch, going on my laptop every now and then to check this site, and then just went back to kind of zoning out staring at the massacre that's on the television...

Ditto, usually when the Red Sox are in the playoffs, its what I look forward too all day, this year it just hasn't been the same.

What do you guys think caused this feeling among us? The weak end to the regular season, while the Yankees finished very strongly? I've never admitted it because I feel it's wrong to but I might as well say it, I felt going in that it didn't matter who won our series, the Yankees would win anyway. I want to believe would could beat them, it would just require us to play completely different. So much better. Something we're not capable of right now.

It certainly wasn't my feeling going into the series--I love the playoffs and was pumped yesterday afternoon. The team's performance has basically taken that out of me in a little over 24 hours.

I dunno. what it comes down to for me is that everything that could possibly go wrong this season seems to have found a way to do it and I didn't see a good reason why the postseason should be different.

That and we're probably the third best American League team in the playoffs and there's no particular reason to suggest we're underperforming. We're losing this series to the better team, both on paper and in practice. That's never a happy place to be.

Watching this game and the times they showed the sox at their dogout all I saw was dejection. They already know they're f***ed and not even trying anymore. Pretty sad to be honest...

Looking back at the season, what did we really think would happen when the Yankees went out and got TEX, CC, AND Burnett? We have/had a good team this year, but it was just too inconsistent and the Yankees are just ultimately much better.

And it's hard to argue with the way the Yanks are playing. There team seems to be firing on all cylinders. Even Gay-Rod is coming through with meaningful situations. I could be petty and come up with some way to discount the Yankees. But you know what f*** it, there playing good ball right now at the right time, they deserve some credit.

Sad thing is if they win it all, there only accomplishing what most's expectations were already. It will be more of a sigh of relief type situation. I also don't like the sound of a healthy monkey on his back-less Arod.

BTW every Yankee fan should be worshiping the ground Kate Hudson walks on, and hope she says yes when he pops the question. That chick is the best thing to ever happen to him, and he knows it lol

I think that going into this year I would have liked to believe that at least one of them would have an awful year under the "New York pressure," or whatever, and just have a terrible year. Or I would have even settled for an awful year against us.

Whatever. I have it pretty rough living in New Jersey, now I have to deal with hearing all the Yankee fans' s***.

Let us look at it this way if it makes you feel better. Yankees always had the best resources in terms of money. It is to some part luck and to some part bad personel decisions that they have not won a championship this decade. Looks like finally they got the best team money can buy and they have been due for a while.

I am just happy to be where the Sox are in this decade compared to the Yankees given the fact that they have been out-spent by them all the time.

We seem happy to just be in the playoffs. We literally backed in and did not win to get in even though we had the chance. Also, 2004 and 2007 are over. We cannot live in the past. Yankees spend almost a half billion dollars to win a championship and what is our counter, Rocco, Penny and Schmoltz, smart. The days of just lining them up and letting them play and we win are over. We need to coach and manage. Something we do not do very well. I literally hate the Yankees! But did you see how they played their came last night? Did you see how they seemed to pull out all stops as if they had to win? Did you see how their manager knew they were off today and did not care if he blew out his bull pen? I really do not care if Lester and/or Beckett gets their feelings hurt. Both should only be planned to go five innings. It is a five game playoff! Last night Tito cold have alternated lefty righty every inning from the sixt on. We can't hit on the road. Keeping the game close was critical, because maybe we could squeak out another run. Bunt, hit and run, double steal something! There is no monster in california. This isn't the middle of the season. Pappi needs to sit on the road. What are all those batters looking at the first and third base coach for if we are not giving them any advice. Even saying all of this, we were in first place at the All Star break and then did what! I apologize for rambling but I am so mad I could spit! I am a huge Red Sox Fan and I believe we all deserve better. If you lose because the other team is better, well that's understood. Still not a good feeling but at least understood. When you lose because the team doesn't show up, that's sad and unacceptable! LET's GO RED SOX! Show some pride, For the Glory!

This makes me wonder if our whole end of season attitude came back to bite us in the ass. We gave up on the AL East even though it was clearly possible to chase, and we by all accounts just backed into the playoffs. Pathetic, and it did not give us the right mentality going in.

Burnett was awful against the Red Sox this year.

Like not taking signs from the 3B coach anymore? Hmmm...

This isn't a matter of not trying, not having heart or not having the right mentality. It is a matter of baseball being a game where results have to happen on the field not in anyone's psyche before the series starts. The Angels are a VERY, VERY good team. Perhaps you're all taking them for granted because of the successes the Sox have had against them in the past, but this was the team that had the best record in the AL Last year (IIRC) and who has a large payroll and is in the playoffs every year.

If the Red Sox had the Twins and won the first two games against a rookie pitcher and Blackburn, I don't think you would be so mad (Gov Bill) and all would seem rosie, just as it should; but it would be the same team! It's a fickle sport, but many of us felt that this Sox team was not well prepared to beat the Yankees and that the series with the Angels would be tough. Sorry if some of you had unrealistic expectations, but I don't think this loss was about leaving Beckett or Lester in too long, it is about the offense not producing when they need to, and this being a predictable problem given how they struggled on the road this season.

Check out our record against Western teams. 13-21. Not pretty at all. I can't find our record on the road against Western teams, but I imagine it's driving this number.

I don't want to say this was a foregone conclusion, but I was definitely hoping not to have to play the Angels this year.

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion since June that if the Sox made the playoffs as the WC they would be facing the Angels. I think it really sucks that teams who make the WC aren't able to have home field advantage if their record is better. The Sox may have tried to get HF against the Angels if this were the case. It's nice to get in as the Wild Card, but it is easy to get shafted if you're playing on the road against the Twins (which would happen if the Sox/Twins won), despite the Twins 7 fewer wins.

I love how you never show up when the Yanks are sucking.

I don't know, in the 2003 ALCS I had a certain feeling. In the 2007 ALCS, I had a certain feeling too. I just don't this time around. But then again, I gave up hope in the 2004 ALCS so maybe we can actually rip off 3 in a row against the Angels.

I think it's all due to the fact we don't have Manny on our team anymore :(
