He also says he loves Coco's Disciples and that Coco loves him back.

Hilarious.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I am actually Coco's Dicksickles.

Of course he's banned' date=' i'm pretty confident he was also that Javier Lopez guy.[/quote']

And like 30 other posters.

We should probably get back on topic before the fun police show up and ticket us for not adhereing strictly to teh topic at hand.

Yeah what a bunch of fascists.

Lopez was hysterical. Can't believe they banned him.

That guy was a tool who contributed nothing to this forum but creepy sexual innuendo.

It is relevant towards a discussion of him getting his "due" (whatever that is), as a player's image is a very important part of how that player, employee, politician, person, is judged by his friends, coworkers, peers, media, etc...

When will A-Rod get his due?

As mentioned earlier in the tread, the title was a play on words. It was more of a discussion of Drew's worth to the team and the Theo interview from last week.

I play soccer at a fairly competitive level, with some former low level pros and a lot of other players who are half decent but just think they are better than they are.

I am not the most skilled soccer player. I have the first touch of a rapist and no matter what I do on the field, I can NOT put the ball in the net.

What I AM, is the hardest, smartest worker on the field every time I step on it. The way I play commands the respect of everyone else on the field. Why? Because on that field I am an overachiever. I do more than I should be able to with the talent that I have been given.

No offense, but I find this comparison pretty laughable. You're comparing major league ballplayers to what amounts to a club soccer team.

Let's not even discus the differences between the sports, either.

In life, we tend to gravitate towards the little guy- the Dustin Pedroia who will never make it in the bigs, the Wes Welker type who manages to cut between players with feet on him in size and hundreds of pounds in weight. We root for the 15 seed busting its ass to beat that full-of-itself 2 that would have been a 1 if it had hit its potential. Personally, I can not STAND playing ball with players who are blessed with talent and are no better than I am because they don't work hard enough and don't try hard enough.

The Pedroia and Welker comparisons are crap because those two are immensely talented. Pedroia probably has the best hand-eye coordination I've ever seen in a hitter and Welker has the uncanny ability to stop on a dime without losing a step.

Just because they are small white guys, does that mean they are less talented than a guy like Drew?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe J.D. Drew is the consummate professional- handling the game like a job rather than a passion, always on an even keel. Dustin Pedroia is the guy in sales, yukking it up with everyone he sees and scoring sales for the firm, while J.D. Drew is working in the backroom in the accounting department quietly earning his keep for the firm. Maybe that is the best way for anyone to handle the game, (and lets not forget, that is what it is, a game). Or maybe it is just the best way for him to handle the game. After all, we need an accountant, but we need a salesman too.

Absolutely. Does that mean the accountant has underachieved, o doesn't get the most out of his skills?

What it isn't though, is endearing to most fans. It presents the attitude of someone who doesn't care much, who isn't utilizing all of his talents, all of his power, to milk everything that he can out of the game. Is that the case? I don't know. But if his peers are calling him an underachiever, that is quite the indictment that there is more behind his attitude than the "consummate professional." That would insinuate apathy, which is not follwed by adoration.

Whether or not J.D. Drew is underachieving has everything to do with this discussion.

THIS IS EXACTLY THE POINT OF THE THREAD.

Drew gets a bad rap, whether it be from the idiots on WEEI, or the drunk who used to manage him in STL. It's not warranted. It simply isn't. To say Drew doesn't care because he appears without emotion is prtty intellectually dishonest.

Of course there is no comparison of the level of talent between me playing soccer and some of the best athletes on the planet. Im trying to relate on a smaller level about human interaction and what we prefer out of people. I guess perhaps relating it personally probably makes lots of sense for me and no one else.

Regarding the second point, I can see what you mean about Welker and Pedroia. What I mean to say is that I see them as people who have to overachieve in order to be very very good because they have weaknesses that have been traditionally seen as career enders (or non starters).

No I don't think the accountant underachieved. That is why I brought it up. Believe it or not, I don't hate J.D. Drew. I just don't want him to O on my face either. Is he an underachiever? Maybe, maybe not. I think when someone has such a laid back, even keeled attitude it is a lot easier to throw that around, obviously. Its like I said before, I believe he is underrated in the media and overrated on this board. JD Drew is not God, he is not Vic Mackey, and he is not even the best player, or second best player on the Red Sox. But the stroking he gets on this board makes it as if he is the second coming of Ted Williams, and it gets old. Thats all.

Now I'm gonna go root for J.D. Drew to hit 3 home runs tonight, knowing full well the ass-raping I will take on here if he does.

Go Sox.

Any reason Tito had him hitting 8th last evening?

He was a spark in September, an 8th slot for a guy with his OPB#s is a slap in the face.

it isnt like he's arodesque in the playoffs

JD Drew usually only gets a big hit when we're far ahead in runs or losing miserably. That is why he gets bashed.

You, sir, are an idiot.

I dont think he gets bashed for his meaningless hits as much as he gets bashed for not playing in pain and his bloated contract. He is perceived as a **** with no balls or heart.

Thats not just my perception but the perception of just about every f***ing human being who lives 200 miles outside boston.

The man has had some huge hits for us since his arrival, he can add a lot of offense to this team that looked more desperate than a Bernie Madoff invester yet the manager has him hitting 8th?

That in itself frightens me, has Tito lost it or is there something magical about hitting in front of Alex Gonzales? This is a pathetic effort but good pitching beats good hitting most of the time...

30abs in a 27 out game is a recipe for losing, the catalysts were bound and gagged and John Lackey pitched his ass off...Its time to man up, no time for whining, no time for letting down, time to man up.

Tito loves the LRLRLR lineup. He won't hit ahead of Youk or Bay. You could make the case he should be hitting ahead of Ortiz and Lowell but I guess Tito valueas his baserunning over Ortiz's at the bottom of the order.

And now I' convinced Pwndroia is simply a troll posing as a Sox fan - no one can be this stupid.

I would move Drew up too. At least in front of Lowell. In generally this season I haven't been a strong Lowell supporter. He just looks weak and uninspired at the plate.

This is a weird board. Someone will spend 90 minutes on a post that (I think) is filled with good ideas and it will get one response. PWNdroia writes one sentence that is filled with idiocy and it gets a page of responses. Low hanging fruit, I guess? Let's just ignore his s*** and he'll find it pretty unfullfilling to post garbage.

You raise an interesting comment, although in my defense I answered Crunch's question before talking about Pwndroia.

I'm as critical of him as almost anybody, but seriously why was he batting 8th? He's been maybe the Sox best hitter since August 1st.

TIto's platoon construction is my best bet.

Also it's probably true that Tito values someone who can run the bases behind Lowell.

But i'm probably playing Devil's Advocate, because this looks like simply an exercise in stupidity by Tito.

They are very polite around here. When they call you an idiot, they refer to you as "sir" or "my friend".

There's a Good reason I can think of not to Do that, Personally.

I don't need to explain it to you, but i will:

You're trying to use the argument that JD Drew only hit during "junk time", which is ********, because then you'd have to prove to me that everyone of JD Drew's 124 hits, which included 30 doubles and 24 Home Runs, plus his 82 base on ball came during garbage time, oh wait, you can't, you know why? because JD Drew was an important contributor during a lot of this team's victories, and it's a show of ignorance and stupidity that you'd have to go back to the homo erectus to find.

And let me tell you something else, OPS (On base plus slugging in case you didn't know) is the best measure of offensive performance there is. Now answer me this, how can a man who was third in this team in OPS and 11th out of all Major League outfielders, be a "crap time" performer.

It makes no sense, because it's an exercise in stupidity.
