The only game of interest today was Minnesota at Detroit. That was rained out.

Florida vs. Atlanta is mildly interesting. Atlanta is 2 back if they win, and they have Washington at home over the weekend.

This game could get interesting here

EDIT: maybe not. tito has benched half of our starters

thanks alot Tito for benching half of our players

Look at the score. He is being smart.

It's nice to see that Ortiz has been a consistent producer in the lineup since the first two months of the season. We need him to be a force in the playoffs. Lot's of people were ready to throw inthe towel on him. His bat speed always looked good to me, but his timing was so off that he was starting his swing when the ball was past him. It was very frustrating to watch him struggle for such an extended period. I really think that he had to fully recover from his wrist injury and regain mechanics that he lost while playing injured. It would be nice to see him come out of the box fast next spring. I made a couple of good calls on him during the season. I thought he would come out of his slump much earlier and hit 35+ HRs and lead the team in HRs. I wasn't too far off as he can still get to 30 HRs, and only Bay has more HRs and he has 35 HRs.

well Id say good call but you are doing a good job doing that for yourself...but we are all real glad to see Papi back to being atleast somewhat of his old self.

Yeah, I'm over-killing it, but I really was one of the lone voices that thought he had something left. There were times that I doubted he would pull out of it, but when I saw him up close one game in May, I could see that he could still whip the bat through the zone. His bat went through the zone as fast as anyone else on the team, but his timing and pitch recognition were horrible.

You did manage to have faith in papi throughout the season. Kudos.

I don't think Ortiz is his former formidable self. If he were we wouldn't be talking about this team needing additional bats moving forward and he would be batting 4th. His .347 OBP in the second half is a far cry from what he used to put up, and it is not helped by his .252 BA. I don't think he's enough to carry this team in the playoffs, but I'll certainly be rooting for him.

It is remarkable that he is close to 100 RBI despite his PUTRID first part of the season.

Again, congrats on being right. I had faith in him through the first 1/3 of the season or so, but I lost it eventually. I still don't think he's much to build the team around and I think a team with the resources of the Sox should have the best DH money can buy. I will be advocating for them to add more offense in the offseason and to plan to be done with Ortiz after next year (if not before).

Ortiz has a .260 BABIP.

So the suck is not only a product of a greatly reduced contact% but also a hell of a lot of bad luck.

This makes a lot of sense. At the same time, this is a man who had an OPS over 1.000 for three straight seasons in 05, 06 and 07, and who has a .789 this year. It is true that his OPS is approaching .900 since the ASB (.861) but that's still not the same guy as before.

I realize that my expectations are very high, but I'm just not ready to believe that he can carry the team again if his luck changes a bit. The playoffs will tell one way or the other...
