I figured this was worth it's own thread because of the significance of the player.

He's being skipped till next Monday because of shoulder fatigue. Apparently it contributed to his bad start last Friday. He threw a bullpen yesterday and felt fine, and he won't throw again till Friday. The Yankees' believe it's not serious.

I basically summarized from here:

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/

This reminds me of El Duque in 2004. He was supposed to really contribute in the playoffs after being surprisingly good in the regular season, and he came down with shoulder fatigue about a week before the playoffs. He only ended up starting once in that postseason, and was pretty shaky, not even finishing five innings.

Obviously, they need Pettitte to be healthy to have their best shot at winning in the playoffs this year. If he's out, they would have to slot Chamberlain into the ALDS rotation. But even worse than that, if they make it out of the ALDS, they would need a fourth starter for the ALCS. I would imagine that they wouldn't trust someone like Sergio Mitre or Chad Gaudin, and they would give it to Alfredo Aceves. Either way, it would present a huge problem.

I'm getting ahead of myself, but having a healthy Pettitte is key.

He is a HUGE part for you guys. With CC sucking in the playoffs and Burnett not look very good at all, you really need a healthy Pettite.

CC's poor performance in the playoffs is not a concern for me. First off, I'm of the believe that those kind of things are irrelevant. I feel the same way with A-Rod. Second, even if you do believe in it, it's such a small sample size. In 2007 he had one really bad start and two mediocre starts. In 2008 he had one bad start, but it was his fourth straight game on three days rest. That probably led to his subpar control and two out walk to Brett Myers.

CC might pitch poorly in the playoffs, but it will have absolutely nothing to do with his lack of success the past two years.

I would take CC over anyone of all the playoff teams in the AL now. Maybe not Verlander. He's f***ing filthy.

Ignoring the foolishness of CC's playoff pedigree being a predictor of anything, and the equal foolishness of saying he's the best starter taking the hill out of the likely AL playoff teams, this smells like a non-story. It's some extra rest heading into the playoffs from a team that has their spot locked up. ZZZZZZ.

Enjoy the sugar cube, Mr Ed.

I would tend to agree, however you're talking about who has thrown 178.1 innings this year. At the very least, it's something to keep an eye on, considering his importance to this team.

I agree 110%. Well said.
