Me pointing out that I think Kotchman is a waste of a roster spot makes me a kill-joy? Pessimist? Plenty of people were ready to throw in the towel a few weeks ago. I did not. In fact' date=' I thought we still had a chance at the Division if we could close the yankee lead to 4 games by September 1st. I am the one saying that I am not worried about Texas. I still think they will fade despite their double header victory. Because I don't view them as a threat, I'd like to give our ace a little rest. This sounds like pessimism. I also didn't want to DFA Ortiz as so many wanted to do. Again, this is pessimism?[/quote']

you are right, maybe Pessismism is the wrong word but it seems that their is always something that the Red Sox Managment and/or Ownership has done wrong according to you so you are eternally overly critical of the Sox FO.

How boring would it be to post about VMart being such a solid offensive player. How boring would it be to have that debate? Would there be anything to debate? I think the value of Kotchman to this team is doubtful, and it is at best debatable. I disagree with you about his value. How does that make me a pessimist. Plenty of people here killed Lugo. Were they pessimists? I rarely joined in the Lugo bashing, because there was nothing to debate. It was a clear cut case. I don't argue about the clear cut cases. There is nothing to say about those. I like the contentious debatable points. My disagreeing with you and the FO on those points doesn't make me a pessimist.

I agree with a700 to an extent. I'm not going to call the Kotchman deal a failure yet, because I can at least follow Theo's logic at the time of the trade. Unfortunately for us, LaRoche has raked in the interim while Kotchman hasn't, and while Kotchman is a better fielder, I'm not sure if that is able to justify a difference between a post trade OPS of .589 (and Kotchman's will go lower after today's game) and .995 (which may go up for LaRoche after this game) + the $1 million that we gave to the Braves for the deal. While Theo should have known that LaRoche is a 2nd half player and has been his entire f***** career, I don't think it's fair to lampoon him for Kotchman's offensive inefficiencies, now at least.

I already withdrew my comments regarding you as being a pessimist so you can drop that, and I am merely stating that on most of the GTs you have something to complain about regarding moves made by those of authority in the sox orginization, I am not criticizing you for not complementing their good moves I am criticizing your ability to constantly find a bad move even when their is seemingly none there, if someone was to read your GT posts and not watch the games they would believe you were talking about the Pirates orginizations (aside from the names of course.)

LaRoche would be playing twice a week with us tops.

So drop that issue champ, that's the reason they traded hm.

I dont think that LaRoche is as good as he has been playing, his bat is certainly more powerful than Kotchmans but the dude can be a K machine, which is not something I value too highly.

LaRoche is also an average 1B at best.

I was vocal about signing the walking wounded, Smoltz, Penny, Saito and Baldelli. Saito is the best of the group, and he looked good back in the spring. Baldelli is a limited role player that has been on the DL twice. How do you feel that Penny and Smoltz worked out. Are you happy about the SS predicament. We've played more than half the season with Nick Green at SS. Really, were there a lot of moves to praise this season? Once they missed out on Tex, they didn't seem have a cohesive strategy.

not to mention we own Kotchman for a bit longer and is still young enough that he could start to develop a bit more power.
He's not a high OBP guy nor is he a big power guy. He has had just about the same number of ABs as Pedroia and about 400+ more than Ellsbury, and Ellsbury has the higher OBP. I don't see the potential fit. There is a reason why two good franchises gave up on a young player in two seasons.

I was at the game. It was dull but fun if that makes sense.

We had very good seats. Section 4 in the State Street Pavilion. Behind home plate just to the left field side

Buck looked very good.

I talked to Luis Tiant. He sells Presidente at his booth for $8.75. That was a treat.
