I went through the hassle of manually installing the Asian language IME in XP, and now I can see the actual characters instead of a bunch of boxes w/weird numbers. Cool.

This IME keyboard typing conversion doesn't work very well on my computer. Half the time it works and half the time it seems to mix up English letters with the Japanese ones. Oh well. Gave me something to tinker with for a bit.

Ok ok, I confess - I made that whole thing up. Sorry to disappoint, Gom. I can't actually read the Japanese characters, although I did learn some phrases and stuff while I was there.

I mainly was in Himeji for most of the trip, but we went out sightseeing every single day to other cities. Off the top of my head, I went to Fukuoka (saw a baseball game there), Hiroshima, Miyajima, Tokyo, Kyoto, Okayama, Kobe, and Awaji Island.
