I think it's generally assumed that when there's criticism or celebration of a player on this site, none of it is on a personal level. But it's still possible and to me, expected that is acknowledged that at the end of the day, they are people just like the rest of us.

The millions of people that ride the Rail Road with me everday are people to, and I have as much emotional connection to them as to any ballplayer.

I do understand what you are saying 700 and to some extent I agree but on the other hand I do have emotional attatchments to players, I like to hear that they are good people and I feel joy with them when we win, like along with being happy for myself I was happy for Pap when he got the last out in the WS in 07, but I do understand what you mean.

if Pedroia's wife and kid had just died during child birth, would you have been upset solely for the fact that he would've missed a lot of time?

I am not immune to being a fan of certain players. It's nice to hear that someone built a school or visited a hospital. If someone in a player's family died, I would think that it was very sad for the player and his family, but I would feel that way if I heard bad news about someone who lived in my community who I never knew, essentially a stranger.
